I own the A700x and i can definitely say that the sound stage is wide and  there are many details...

I would guess that as the ATH-AD700s are open, they would be a touch better at FPS gaming, then the closed ATH-A700X.

If you were me, would you sell the A700x and get the AD700x ? are the differences in soundstage huge ?
 
i was also asking myself the question when i wanted to compare PC350 and PC360...

Consider also that A700x has a better Frequency Response and higher input Power...

I would think the open AD700X offers better surround sound then the closed A700X
But I'm not sure by how much, so not sure if the cost is worth it.
The AD700s lack of any real bass makes it easier to hear sounds in the game.
 
I would think to keep an eye out for a good price on the older (used) ATH-AD700.
Use the A700X for everything else, that is not FPS gaming.
 
I like my HD558s better then my ATH-AD700, but only because the HD558 offers more bass.
The HD558, HD598 & PC360 use the same driver (all are 50-Ohm), but different cup designs.
The PC350 (150-Ohm) uses an older driver design.

How about the Positional accuracy and soundstage ? which one is better ? I own the HD598 ... would it make sense to return the A700x and buy the AD700x ?

If you already own the HD598, I would assume the ATH-AD700 would at most make a little improvement.
So not worth buying the AD700 or AD700X.

I use X-fi go pro!, Xonar U3 and razer surround app with E17's DAC

I would assume the best setup is S/PDIF optical (or coaxial) from the computer to the FiiO E17 and the HD598 plugged into the FiiO E17
And using the Razer software for Headphone Surround Sound
But I'm just guessing.
