bummer, wonder who started the rumor that it was confirmed as compatible?? lynch them!! hehe, well I guess i'm glad I bought that ipad then. should be here next week

[size=medium]
might be possible with a cracked phone tho, since it has all the needed hardware. only thing would be reduced battery life and without the reserves the ipad has

I can confirm it works with my iPad, Camera Connector kit and external DAC (a Headroom Portable Desktop Amp with built-in DAC).

iPad camera connection kit...

I would be worried that Apple will take the ability to stream digital output with the camera adapter away in the future.  I was really hoping that IOS4 would open that avenue up for my 2nd Gen Touch but no dice.

yes we have that information, as reported in this very page, unfortunately it doesnt work, it ONLY works with ipad; but then why would iphone and itouch, both of which have their own camera, need a camera connection kit? I was hopeful, but i'm not surprised

The newest touch (which hasn't been released yet) has a camera, but none of the previous versions.

Can someone tell me how exactly one would know if the ipod DAC was being bypassed.. what im asking is, for example when someone plugs the camera kit into the ipad, as opposed to just an lod, what happens that makes them say.. ahh yes.. i have just bypassed the ipad's dac, as opposed oh fooey, it didnt work it only bypassed the headphone part like an lod does...
and lets say theoretically the camera kit worked on the new ipod touch.. how would you differentiate it from bypassing the dac and just bypassing the headphone jack..
and how do we know an lod is only bypassing the headphone jack..
I think you get my point... im very curious about all this

also wondering if anyone has tried the camera kit on the new ipod touch...

wow, i never heard that it worked with the new iphone, that woudl be stupendous

thanks for your patience.

This is pretty simple. Audio coming from an LOD is analog. You plug it into a headphone amp's analog input. So it does not bypass the iPod/iPhone/iPad DAC.

If you get a USB output, and you plug that into a USB DAC, then you have bypassed the IPxxx's internal DAC for sure, as you are getTing the digital audio stream.

What I want to know is if my CAR can access the digital audio stream from an iPod, why does it take a $300 dock like the Wadia or Denon to accomplish this at home?

Thanks, that makes sense, if i dont try to overthink it or understand the technicality of it
i guess this is where i just nod and smile ;-)

so basically there's something in that camera kit thats saying.. "allow me to access the audio" which doesn't happen when, for example I plug in my standard ipod connector to usb cable.
and its obvioulsy not as easier as resoldering something or someone would have figured it out by now.
