Iphone 5 and new ipod touch DAC?

I am as I device fanboy a bit dispointed with iPhone 5 audio quality , because Audio Qulity from my
iPhone 4 S is better than Iphone 5

Audio output takes a step back, still remains great
Surpringly enough, the iPhone 5 audio output was a tad worse than that of the iPhone 4S. Obviously the ultra compact body demanded some compromises be made. The good news is that even though the iPhone 5 fails to match the performance of its predecessor, it still remains one of the best performers on the market.
In the first trial (connected to an active external amplifier), the iPhone 5 did quite well, though not quite perfectly. The frequency response has some deviations at the high end of the spectrum and the stereo crosstalk levels are only average for this part of the test. Neither of these is anything to worry about, but it's not quite what we've come to expect from Apple. Volume levels on the iPhone 5, even though lower than those of the 4S, are still well above average.
The second part of our test told a similar story - the iPhone 5 is a great performer, but not quite as good as the iPhone 4S. It had higher intermodulation distortion levels, more stereo crosstalk and lower volume levels. So while last year Apple's flagship smartphone did easy work of the competition, the iPhone 5 got the victory by the skin of its teeth.

Are you saying you have heard it and compared the 2?
or are you saying that because someone else's review says so?

Before I bought all my Iphone from 3 G , 4 G and 4 S , I always read gsmarena reviews

I take note on audio section and what gsmarena review is true and I trust gsmarena.

Note : stereo crosstalk Iphone 4 S = - 93
iPhone 5. = - 76,5

Stereo crosstalk is very important for detail and Chanel separation for Sound Quality .



Now in Singapore do not have stock , I can not compare A and B.

As soon I get my Iphone 5 , I will post later on .

I A/B'ed the 4s to the 5 and on my fischer audio dba-02 with comply tips the 5 sounded slightly better to me but it could be all in my head.  If you look at the RMAA result graph, the rolloff is at such high frequency and is so slight that I laugh and the 'golden ears' that can perceive this difference.  THD is way down, that's what I care about but nobody seems to be pointing it out.

My problem with the 5 is basically the output impedance. Guess i could trade crosstalk for THD but for armatures a z lower than 2 is essential in my book.

I would have asked about an LOD hookup with this, but Apple screwed everyone in that area with the "lightning" connector. Crap,...that sux!!!:mad:

It concludes what i always thought: iPhone 4S 64gb is the best smartphone for music.
 
And in the realm of 16 bits there is too little room to improve its headphone out.
 
Shame that iPhone 5 does not keep up.

Actually...I'm pretty sure they thought the GS3 was best...Doesn't matter to. I have an iPhone 5 and thoroughly enjoy and wouldn't change it for anything. It sounds great to me using Spotify@320kbs and sticking my MD Tributes straight into the headphone out. I personally prefer it over my iPhone 4 using the same method. To each his own though.

But the S3 stands out for customization options.

From a sonic pov is 4S all the way.

But whatever floats your boat :wink:

It WOULD make for a rather bulky & strange looking/connected setup. So yes, it would be QUITE unwieldy,...

Besides, Apple now made it necessary to buy all new accessories,...not kool at ALL!!! Making us pay for an adapter is nickel-&-dime tactics. :mad:
