Introducing SilentPower from iFi - DC Blocker & GND Defender
Feb 21, 2023 at 3:32 PM Post #46 of 58
Hello,

I have been having some super annoying whirling/buzzing issues through my speakers for awhile now and I simply cant take it anymore.

I have two separate computers running but only one of them is plugged into my amplifier/dac. The one that isn't connected I can hear activity from the monitors (mouse movement, pixels changing) in the speakers even though that pc isnt connected in any way to the DAC/Amp. The only thing in common is that they share a mouse and keyboard. The one that is connected to the computer with the amp is Bluetooth connected and the other one not connected to the amp is via wireless usb.

This whirling/buzzing sound doesnt get louder if I adjust the volume. I have my computer plugged into a powered external dac via usb but I also tried with optical cable and I still get the same sound. I even tried the ifi usb defender but that did not eliminate it either.

I dont know what else to do. Can anyone help? @iFi audio

From what I can tell, you have to have a ground loop somewhere. If you haven't done this already, I'd start by plugging my entire audio setup including your PC for it into the same power distributor and seeing whether this changes anything. Let me also ask about your setup; its components, how are they connected and your PC as well.

Hello! Thanks for the reply on such an old thread!

Everything is plugged into the same power distributor. I tried plugging things into separate outlets but the issue still persisted. All of the monitors, including my own pc tower has a grounded power cable. The only things that doesn't is the PCOIP unit's power supply, my amplifier and dac. The amp has a chassis ground knob on the back that I tried grounding to my PC chassis but that unfortunately didn't do anything. (I double checked to make sure the pc chassis was grounded).

The PC is a mini ITX with relatively new Corsair 850sf power supply, high end mobo and cpu, 64gb of ram, and nvidia 2080ti graphics card. Some things are plugged into the back via usb and display port (graphics card to the monitor). If I remove everything except for the usb cable that's going to the DAC the problem still persists. From the DAC to the amp are RCA cables. They are pretty decent cables. The DAC and amp unfortunately do not have balanced inputs/outputs.

OK, by speakers you mean Klipsch RF7ii, right? And what is your amp? For now I'd like to ask you to connect just speakers and amp, power it on and see whether you get any hiss.

No, this is for my office setup Rotel RA12, JDS Labs Atom DAC, Philips Fidelio X2HR headphones (can hear it through the headphones also) and Focal Speakers. There is no feedback until I start using the pcoip.

Okay, let me ask this: how does your setup looks like exactly, and upon powering which product you get buzz? We need to first find the source of that sound and then have a think how to get rid of it.

So it turns out the culprit is my ethernet powerline adapter causing the noise. Which is unfortunate. If I unplug that and hardwire it the issue goes away!

Folks, Just sharing a review from Stereo Head on the DC Blocker, Enjoy!

https://www.stereo-head.it/2021/04/...tica-ai-problemi-di-alimentazione-recensione/

"IFI’s DC Blocker and GND Defender are two products that take care of the point and solve two problems present in many plants in a direct and immediate way. The cost is not very low, but both work very well and put an end to power problems difficult to solve in my case they immediately eliminated the vibrations of the power amp, a problem that I had been carrying around for a long time, therefore, I found the money spent on the DC blocker the 150 euros best invested in my systems since the buzz was very annoying.”

Just hit translate to read the full review from Matteo.

Thanks to Matteo!

Cheers!!

DC Blocker!

@iFi audio can the DC blocker be used with a European 2 pin plug, as in not using the ground connection?
Could rewire IEC in the chassis no problem, but would still like to avoid using ground, right now using the ground plug from my ifi AC purifier to my luxmans grounding post, would like to keep it this way.
Would very much like to use this for my luxman l400.

Hi, I have checked on this and indeed you can use it with the 2 Pin Plug!

Hope that helps you out and if you happen to get it, please let us know how you make out with it!

Cheers!!

Bubba
