It uses regular Android Apple Music. (In my review I will write a section on how and where Shanling uses integration via API or accommodates third party streaming services via APK. Reason is that it affects the way information is displayed)does it use regular apple music or is it some weird integration @WDitters ?
@Uncle Wilson from Jaben SG pinged me the other day to let me know that the Shanling SM1.3 has arrived and asked if I wanted to try it for a few days?

One of the first things I tried while I was downloading the Eddict Controller app was the LDAC BT connection and sound. It was easy to connect and play. With both the Samsung S24 and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.

Another few days of burn-in ahead of me. And then next Saturday the reviewing starts ….

Excited to hear reviews. I have the m6 ultra, so curious to see how they compare if possible

Tip of the veil .. Sounds way better … Think somewhere above M9+
(And that’s without considering that this is a desktop device with loads of additional capabilities)

I hope to publish my review early 1st week of 2025 at the latest. First extensive listening and comparing starts this weekend .. will be comparing the streaming and preamp capabilities with Naim Uniti Atom HE, FiiO R9 and Eversolo A8. The headphone capabilities will be compared with FiiO R9, Hiby RS8 , Naim Uniti Atom HE (and Violectric V590)

Until then … another sneak preview … It’s been a while since I came across such an extraordinarily accomplished pairing (also aesthetically)

The SM1.3 is not primarily focused on serving as headphone amplifier.. the R9 is … And while they both have different tunings, the R9 has more drive and control (higher output current)
As secondary focus however, for a preamplifier the quality of the headphone output of the SM1.3 actually is fantastic…

Yes, on my eversolo I couldn't install per example Snipd, a great podcast player.I guess that's a no. Unlike for instance Eversolo streamers that are somewhat setup in a similar manner (Custom shell around standard Android OS) the SM1.3 lacks file explorer type functionality that allows you to browse to and install from a side-loaded APK file.
*edit* Not that Eversolo allows sideloading just everything ... While sideloading is to some degree possible with Eversolo, it definitely does not mean that everything plays nice with the Eversolo shell. I would expect that also is the case with Shanling's MTouch. In that light I do understand why device manufacturers would prevent sideloading by disabling the functionality altogether.

How does it sound as a stand alone streaming dac/amp?One of the first things I tried while I was downloading the Eddict Controller app was the LDAC BT connection and sound. It was easy to connect and play. With both the Samsung S24 and the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
