I only use Samsung Endurance cards - to many of the other cards failed too soon!

M6 Ultra do not have this setting.

For Cards, we mostly use Sandisk and Samsung. No clue on quality of Amazon basic cards.

Also, our recommendation is to never buy cards from Amazon, it's full of fakes. Better to purchase directly from official e-shops or from big electronics retailers.

Does the brand new micro sd card need to be treated in any special way, e.g. formatted on a PC to an appropriate file system, or can it simply be inserted into a DAP?

It should work just fine out of the box (At least for main card manufacturers like Sandisk, Samsung, Lexar, etc)
