Introducing ONIX Overture XM5 - First Portable Player from ONIX

Aug 10, 2024 at 10:12 AM Post #271 of 453
I just received mine from a fellow great Headfier. It's a beautiful little player and just sounds superb with my F7Us. Onix have managed to take that usually slightly sterile/sharp sound of ESS and turn it into a gorgeous analog like sounding unit.

Hows navigating your music library? I have almost filled up my 1TB card and wondering how it would perform.

How will xm5 perform, i have like 30k tracks on my 1tb sd card

The internal library is limited to 20 000 files, so it will not be able to scan it.

But, if you are fine with using folder browsing, it will work just fine.

Can i set the order of the songs in the order of the upload date or only in alphabetical order ?

There is the recently added tab, otherwise you can't order the whole lists by this.

Ordered this yesterday! It's so cheap here at our place. Only around 583 usd

question @Shanling I cant seems to connect Eddict app with XM5 using Wifi, any other way to connect em?

Are you trying to use SyncLink? For that please use Bluetooth connection.

Any idea how this dap would work with highly sensitive andromedas 2020 iems?

Andromedas are quite sensitive to output impedance of the source, so on XM5 their sound would sound more neutral/brighter.

Seriously? I'm so
Please be aware that EQ only works for 44.1/48kHz files. It will not work for anything Hi-Res.

Seriously? I'm so very glad I read this just now. I was getting ready to purchase it. Is the M5 Ultra this way as well? I wouldn't think so. I've never heard of such a thing.

It's the same for all our MTouch players.

SyncLink allows you to browse the full library. Either after music scan through tags or through folder browsing.

Is there any way to increase library size to 30k or so? Or maybe an update file for those ownders who is willing to compromise library size with performance? Thanks! I was able to run a patch before on my Hiby R3 that unlock library cap, hope there's one too with XM5. Thanks!

You can send us one or two files to check.

Most common issue is if somebody uses progressive jpg.

Maybe one day if our software finally fixes this...

That's weird.
Lotoo uses the Ingenic X1000 in the Lotoo Paw Gold Touch and there is no 20000 music limitations in the library. Shanling is using the Ingenic X2000, years more advanced, and can't handle more than this?

For years a civil war has raged at the heart of Shanling headquarters. Stalwart, the software development team has barricaded itself behind closed doors and refuses to operate on any agenda but its own. "The people need more than 20000 tracks," management cries. But the pleas fall on deaf ears. "Please fix Eddict Player and give it a modern interface," management begs. "Never!!!!," answer the developers. "Do you think firmware updates might one day be possible on Macs?," management asks, meekly. "Ask again in 10 years," declares the development team's lead negotiator. In the deserted and debris-strewn basement hallways, lights flicker above discarded banners and signs as a chant echoes and bounces off slogan-covered walls: "20000, not one more, 20000, not one more, 20000, not one more."

At least, that's how imagine it based on the Shanling threads on Head-fi...

I agree with you 100%. Shanling's software team is absolute garbage. To date they have not corrected the errors with the M 8. But it doesn't matter, it's no longer produced. For me, the software team is the worst there is on the market. The only reason I bought a Shanling player again is the sound.
