Introducing ONIX Overture XM5 - First Portable Player from ONIX

I would like to have the Onix automatically rotate the screen depending on how it is held. Kind of like any phone. It would be nice just so you dont have to keep going into the settings to change the rotation if you have the headphone/iem plugged into the top or on the bottom. Besides that, for the basic offline DAP and how I use it, I love it. It is heavy and built very well.

You could use the custom function button for screen rotation as well.

This would require gyroscope sensor, not a part we built into our players yet.

Would it be possible to have memory of what was played when the device is restarted? (Both in Tidal and internal storage)
Playback settings - Memory Playback - Choose either track or location (Beginning of track or exact position in the song)

Hi, has anyone ever compared Onix XM5 to Sony DAPs such as WM1A (with/without mrwalkman fw), or ZX707?
How is the sound quality of XM5 compared to those DAPs?
Currently I'm looking for a worthy upgrade for my old sony A55
Thanks!

I am happy user of DCA AEON Noire, plugged to XM5 in BAL using high gain.

Metal head.
Are they a nice pairing with XM5? I was planning to get these for use in our office, but they are hard to find for demo in China.

well, Im using it it with my Shanling EM5 too and also 2 other desktop amps. I can say, I am not complaining to the result considering it is direct plug to a DAP.
Before getting XM5, I plugged Noire to Hiby RS2 LO to Astell & Kern PA10, fyi

I'm considering this DAP as a replacement for A&K SR25II, but have several questions about its software.

Questions about 20000 songs limit (i.e. what happens when the limit is exceeded):
- does Onix try to perform the scan each time after the connection to PC / SD card update (files addition/removal, tags adjustment, etc.) anyway?
- does Onix report some error/warning after these scans (when the limit is exceeded)?
- does Onix show incomplete contents in Albums / Artists / All Songs views (i.e. only for 20000 successfully scanned files) or are these views simply empty, when the limit is exceeded / scan fails?
- is it possible to add new files (songs) / directories (albums) from the Folders view (the only option, when the limit is exceeded) to the Currently Played list?
- also, what's your overall experience with the interface, especially if you have a big library (>20000 tracks) and using Folders view?
i.e. is it convinient enough (or not) to scroll through the long lists of folders considering Onix's relatively small screen?
and is there any additional slowness or lags/glitches in this case (for owners of big libraries)?

Questions about Bluetooth:
- does Onix spend significantly less battery on playing music via Bluetooth to wireless headphones/earphones/speakers vs via the regular (wired) connections?
e.g. how many percents are spent during the playback of the same album via Bluetooth vs using wired headphones?
- does Onix have some kind of Bluetooth timeout, that allows to break the connection / turn off Bluetooth automatically after some period of inactivity (when the music is stopped)?
- does Bluetooth connection to headphones/earphones remain stable on the street (i.e. no sound issues like interruptions), when Onix is placed in something like over-the-shoulder bag?

Question about power off vs idle mode:
- do you turn off Onix, when its not used for hours (or days), or keep it turned on?
i.e. does it lose a lot of power in idle mode (WiFi / Bluetooth / screen off, music not playing) or it's not significant (e.g. 2-3 percents per day or even less)?

I have around 35k tracks on my 1tb micro sd. Basically the options to access your tracks are All Songs, Artist and Album. If i open All Songs, it will take around 6 seconds before it opens. Scrolling throgh your songs is relatively fast though album art will populate in around 2 seconds. Using the letter bookmark feature, i don't know what it's called, basically if you want to jump from letter A to letter R, it is mostly instataneus but again, album art will show after 2 seconds.

If you have more than 20k tracks, i find it not usefull to even browse your library through All Songs, Artist and Album. All i do is just create a playlist or If i'm going to look for a song/artist. I just search it on Folder View.

-All added songs exceeding 20k will be viewable on folder view.
-Browsing through folder view is quite fast. It knows if your trying to reach a further letter like R or S, it'll speed up.
-I never turn off my Onix. Standby uses very little battery though i never use wifi.

So far i'm happy with the onix. Sonically speaking, i find it far superior to the other DAPs i have tried in the past like M11pro, M15, etc.. I also prefer a none android player, like a pure music player but at the same time will give you the option to connect through tidal. (tidal plays 16bit only). Also it needs a little warming up before the sound opens up.

We are working with Tidal on adjusting it in our MTouch system. Some changes can be done on the API side by Tidal, for some we might need to release firmware update.

Full Hi-Res streaming should now be available to all MTouch players.
