I just joined the forum. I bought the iFI NEO iDSD 2 recently and has been using it for a couple of days.

Using my ASUS Zenfone 10 phone to bluetooth or USB from my laptop to the iDSD 2 and playing on my two tiny Acoustic Energy desktop speakers with its subwoofer. The speakers do NOT have a volume control button

One thing I noted is if I turn on 'Line out volume control' and I use the volume knob I need to turn up to 90% or more in order to get a reasonable loud but not great sound. However, if I disable it and use the music app (e.g. VLC or Windows Media Player) to control the sound level it can go very loud with a small adjustment and with it great sound. The above are tested using RCA outputs.

I then tested with 4.4mm output (with RCA connected) and it output great sound to my headphone without enabling 'Line out volume control' and I can adjust the sound level from the volume knob.

So is this 'Line out volume control' meant for the line out from the RCA/XLR outputs or meant for the 4.4/6.3mm headphone outputs? From my tests I think it don't work in both cases. In short, what's the right way to use this 'Line out volume control'?

For me it works for xlr speakers and 4.4mm headphones. My guess is that your speakers amplifier will run out of power, assuming that their adjustment is at full.

Question: is the tonality of the Neo iDSD 2 closer to the Micro iDSD units (such as the Finale) or closer to the Go Bar? I find that the Finale seems to have a lot more bass than the Go Bar (at least when comparing them both with Xbass on), so that some headphones that sound great with Xbass on the Go Bar sound terrible with Xbass on the Finale (it distorts or is simply too overpowering).

Is the iDSD 2 less bassy compared to the Micro iDSDs?

Maybe I missed it but looking through comments on this thread, it would appear that this unit potentially does not achieve rated power output? Has anybody actually measured it yet?

I need to be absolutely damn sure this thing will make my HE-6se sing and that I can get 2+ watts into 50 ohms, (the more the better). The plan is to get rid of a bunch of redundant gear and consolidate down to just the Neo 2. So, goodbye iFi Zen stack, Asgard 3, iDSD Signature, Monoprice THX788, EF400.

How is the Xbass on this? Sometimes I need to double up on Xbass with the Zen stack to achieve the strength I am looking for. If only iFi would make a (affordable) unit that could have adjustable Xbass strengths without requiring the assistance of a stack that can double dip like the air series.

You can check our headphone calculator here, just input the relevant info and see what you can expect. Although the NEO 2 isn't up there yet you can use the first version as a tool for your situation.

I always recommend buying any audio gear from a reputable retailer with a very good return policy, just so you aren't stuck with something that is not to your ears liking!

My assumption is for neo iDSD, if I were to play DSD file, it wont be impacted by the four digital filter.
The filter is only for PCM

DSD will be pure unfiltered bit perfect. Is my assumption correct?

Just ordered one! I was considering saving up for the Pro iCAN Signature until I learned today that this new iteration of the Neo was released. I’m glad you guys added new feature sets to the point that I can postpone buying the Pro iCAN for now. I plan on pairing it with my Burson Soloist 3XP so I hope it’s a good match. Cheers!

Does the 10mhz clock input work on all inputs also ldac? Because the new pro idsd sig is usb only. How does the clock behave on mqa playback as ive had cd transports with external clock that ended up not doing bit perfect on my mqa cds.

@iFi audio any reason why settings don't save when powered off?

Specifically line-out volume control, it's annoying to have to set it off every time I power it on.
