How can your current set-up, amp and headphones for $1,500 be better than the HD800s? the HD800's are 1,400 by themselves, and you need a good amp, at least $500, if not $1000+ to properly run it. Thats $2000 plus to get started.

Did you use a good amp with the HD800?

Well, unfortunately, money and cost really has nothing to do with what I prefer.  To answer the question my HD800 rig is very, very cabable and, coupled with the headamp GS-1 amp...it is my best rig and I still do love it but I thought it was the most capable headphone in terms of resolving details and accuracy but the STAX have proved me wrong.  I think if I talk about value...the Stax 4040II sig system rig beats the hd800 in spades....IMHO.

Almost ashamed to admit that I have a SR-007BL pair in the closet that have not seen daylight or use since September last year.

Wow, the K1000s are that good, huh?

Whoa, tossing dollar figures around is hardly indicative of anything especially if a person has a preferred sonic signature.

Agree completely with this sentiment, Anaxilus.

jj do you have Sigmas incoming?  I love those headphones, at times they're my favorites of all.  I'm sure you'll be very happy with them.

Yep, I purchased a pair of Sigma Pros a bit over a week ago - hopefully they'll get here next week so I can complete headphone collection... now I just need a real amp to power everything properly.

I have been holding back on getting Stax and K1000. I have recently purchased both O2 and K1000 and what a pleasant surprise. Best purchases of the year so far.

Congrats on joining team stats - an EXCELLENT system you have there for your first foray into the world of electrostatics.
I simply LOVE my Stax and especially the lambda line - up until a few weeks ago I was almost exclusively using my SR404 / SRM-T1 combo.
Now I am being blown awayby my newly arrived AKG K 1000 headphones / SAC-AKG K 1000amp - unbelievable!
Will hopefully revert back to my Stax (for some of my listening) when my 404LE's arrive

i just bought the SR-001 mk2 (baby stax) with superfatcat mod + Li battery and i'm just waiting for it to arrive :-) heard lots of good things about it even though some consider it entry level stax.... hope i made the right decision, can anyone comment on the system? thanks

That's a neat and compact little stax....I'm interested to hear what you think of it...I don't know anything about it or the "superfatcat mod"....looking forward to hearing something about it from head-fiers.

I recently received my SR-003 which are similar (SR-001 has its amp with proprietary connection, the SR-003 needs a regular stax amp with a pro bias output).

I use mine without the headband and I find them nice and comfy but others have commented the comfort is poor.

They're open (unlike other IEMs) and to me (out of my SRM-007t) they sound very clear, spacious and natural. They'll give you a nice taste of stax. Let us know how you find them when you receive them!
