Hey peeps,

The more time I spend here the more I really want to try a beyerdynamic.  History: started off with Senn HD598, then moved to Denon D5000, got the Ultrasone HFI 780 for portable use, loved them so upgraded to Pro 900. I just sold all my headphones minus the HD598 and Pro 900 because I like the Pro 900 so much. The bass is great, the highs are sparkly, and I feel so immersed when I listen to them. I want to see what beyer has to offer. I listen to everything minus country with the most time spent listening to classical piano and symphony, electronic, punk rock, and alternative rock. What do you think I'd like considering I gave up the D5000 for the Pro 900? Since this is an intro the cheaper the better but I am game for all suggestions!

Thanks!

Looking at the DT 990 and 880. I have a Fiio E7 but it would be nice to use out of an iPod. Would you recommend purchasing 32 Ohm version? Is there a quality difference between 32/250/600 ohm versions?

If you want an intro to beyer DT-880/990 and don't want to spend to much DT-990 Pro should be a fine choice . And E7 should bring enough to enjoy it despite being 250 ohms .

(should give you some informations if you didn't have allready seen it) .

DT-880 is not a bass heavy headphone at all , i would call their bass fairly neutral , not like at all your PRO 900 , DT-990 puts more emphasis on bass . (Depend in what you want) .

Do you think it is worth giving the 990 a try (I can return used headphones to amazon if I guy used, right?) if I like the Pro 900s as much as I do? Does anyone prefer the 990 250 ohms to the Pro 900?

Yes. I feel that the DT990 Premium 250 ohm is a more balanced and enjoyable headphone than the Ultrasone and has a much better soundstage. I ended up returning my Pro 900 and keeping the Beyers.

Heya,

Since you gave up the D5000 for the PRO900, it's clear you like big mid-bass boom and shreaking treble. I don't think anything Beyer has to offer will really do what you're looking for. The closest thing is the DT990 PRO. But it's less boomy and less shreaky with the treble. In which case you're just going back more towards what you were doing with the Denons.

Very best,
