Hi guys, i'm glad to finally be a member of this community. I have always had decent portable headphones, but recently I've been following this site and have been looking at the best option for a starter kit - a home audio solution, set up for headphone listening. Today, I settled on the following:

HD650s - second hand from a local audiophile who has some SERIOUS gear - so I know these have been well looked after, a relative steal at 399 NZD
Little Dot MK III Amp - 390 dollars; a price I think is very acceptable, and the supplier lives just minutes down the road!
NAD PP2 - a steal at 99 NZD; it will suit my needs for now
Pioneer PL-12E turntable - an antique, perfect condition I got for 30 dollars (NZD) on trademe.co.nz - just perfect for my needs

So that's my set-up. I have a friend who worked for NAIM in England, and he's going to outfit me with some decent cabling. The kit as a whole isn't the most expensive, but I think I did the right thing by going with the 650s over the 600s, the MK III over the IIs or 1+ and I just think the little NAD will be perfect.

Audio aside I contribute to the Art Of Manliness, MacWorld and i'll occasionally write for Tone, a New Zeland audio/video magazine. I like my car, a 1995 BMW M3 Evolution. I enjoy hunting - I have two shotguns. I like girls. I enjoy boxing and running. I'm studying Politics, specialising in International Relations and Security/Strategy.

I'm so happy to be able to contribute to the forum and do a lot of learning on the way. It's so great to see you all, please send me a message if you want a chat. I am going to learn loads here, and I hope I have something to offer!

Nice to see you all,

Best

Wai hallo thar from down in ChurChur where the water is pure and the crime rates are through the roof.

For comparison, I got my Little Dot MKII for around $250NZD, the Beresford TC-7510 for $200NZD or so and the HF2s for $700NZD, all from overseas distributors or the FS forums. I couldn't be happier with this setup to be honest.

Perhaps we should have a chart where we compare equivalent equipment's prices around the world...

I was thinking about grabbing some of these US ARMY 6AK5s. I spotted a pair on trademe for sale for 20 NZD! Now I just have to get my hands on those (which I thought was a relative steal.) Thanks for the warm welcome guys!
