You're welcome!

Forgot to mention Tom Waits. Accessible enough to drag you in, but he pushes boundaries.

So will the Super Furry Animals. They sound conventional, but then they'll break into Welsh... and things get weird. Similarly, the first album by the Starlight Mints, "The Dream That Stuff Is Made Of" is completely off-kilter. You'll expect one thing and then it'll go somewhere else. You might also love "The Sunlandic Twins" and "Satanic Panic In The Attic" by Of Montreal. Somewhat conventional, but the songs go in unexpected ways halfway through. Lots of fun.

If those grab you, look into the other Elephant 6 bands. Neutral Milk Hotel's "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" is hugely popular. You might enjoy Elf Power, Beulah and The Apples in Stereo, too.
