Have you spent more money buying instruments and supplies for your instruments, or headphones, speakers, cd's, amps etc?

I've definately spent more on instruments. I'm at about 20k+ of instruments under 1k on headphone stuff.

Definitely Instruments, both in terms of what I've spent and what they would cost new. I've got two trumpets - a Schilke S32 and a Kanstul COL103 - and a cornet (Yamaha 2330), plus an assortment of mouthpieces, mutes, cases, etc. Probably spent near $2500 on the whole setup. My Audio Rig, by contrast, probably hasn't cost more than $700ish total.

Spent £75 on a keyboard last month and im saving up £250 for a theremin, but I've only just started my instrument crusade.

Hi-fi spending probably around £1500 gross. I havent ever bothered to add it all up properly, thats a guestimate.

Instruments, by far. Not even close. Doesn't matter how good your phones sound, a live instrument always sounds better.

Technically that depends on the skill of the player, now wouldn't it? I consider myself a respectable enough trumpet player (seriously debated becoming a music ed major, although it's been 2 years since then and I'm not quite at the level I was then), but I can't match my Maurice Andre or Wynton recordings.
