If I read a post from 2 years ago that a person prefers Headphone A to Headphone B, is that likely to be true today?  I ask because headphone manufacturers (like GM Cobalt ignition switch designers) improve their designs while not necessarily changing the part number.
 
What is the lifetime of a stated headphone preference?  Thanks!

I would say it largely depends- for one, the HD 600 pretty much sound the same from their debut. On the other hand, headphones like the LCD 2.2 and the HD 800 have had changes over the past few years. For the most part however, I would say that a headphone preference statement would stay mostly the same.

There are a lot of disagreements about whether particular models have changed because firms generally don't announce (or confirm) changes and the differences are often within acceptable production variation. So it's very hard to get to the bottom of it.

one of the issues at hand is suppliers.
 
Sometimes part suppliers may change the manufactureing process, thus slightly changeing the part, or possibly the supplier discontinues production of the parts all together....
 
then a new supplier has to be found.
 
or sometimes a new supplier is chosen due to costs, not necessarily costs of the part, but the exta fees such as shipping and taxes etc etc....
