I understand this if someone using IEMs blasts an iPod 100%, but that's no worse than blasting it from earbuds.

I voted yes, love 'em for the car or on trips. My Shures can't hold a candle to my fullsize cans, but they probably get more use overall than my Beyers. The sound's not bad either, especially after I finally ditched the E2C for an SE420.

/me love IEM's. For these reasons, and more:
* Sound isolation.
* Portable size.
* Easy to drive with a DAP.

i am trying to love them. true they allow for the same or less volume than my earbuds whilst being able to hear the music better but i also don't like inserting something in my ear and also the sense of being cut off from the world, makes me feel like i'm in a bubble.

i won't comment sound wise as i have only tried a cheap pair which sound worse than terrible so will reserve judgement till i try a different pair.
