Yes its completely passive and works just like the one on the hd300. I like the loop outs because they have very little if any effect on the sound.

What does Justin (and other manufacturers) do with returned units? Sell them again to new customers as "new?"

I hope Justin is cool with the mass purchase and returns? I guess it couldn't hurt if it's a one time thing and everyone gets all the info they need from this, but otherwise Headamp is a small operation and probably can't afford too much of the return action - and whoever gets those amps is getting used goods, or if they wait for a new amp are in line behind the mass of amps you ordered (and I think Headamp has a backorder on making amps as it is?) Just something that crossed my mind.

Why not just sell the amp you don't want here at Head-Fi? Justin gets his business, you get an amp you want, and you'll also get like 95% back. It's a small price to pay to own one for a while, especially to do a head to head comparison like you plan on doing.

I prefer not to return audio stuff, rather sell it here. I guarantee you both of those amps would sell very quickly, especially considering how old they'll be.

The returned amps can not be sold as new. Amps like that are sold as demos. The builder does lose money on such returns so its not good for the bottom line.

Do all these amps burn in at the same rate (and if I remember Justin correctly, he told me the GS-1 requires something like 150 hours to reach its full potential...can't quite recall the exact number)? Think you'll get them all at the same time, so as to ensure they come along at the same speed? I'm just wondering if you'll have them all long enough and have given them enough time to burn in a little to pass proper judgement. But hell, if I had the money, I'd love to give what you're doing a shot, too.

In regards to chillysalsa's comment that the dynahi will 'smoke them all hands down', for the price of one I should hope it'd blow away the Gilmore Lite. But has anyone really given the GS-1 and dynahi a good comparison? Back when I was looking to get an amp, I settled on the GS-1, but had been considering the dynahi (too expensive for me at the time though), but wasn't able to find anything comparing and contrasting the two...and I still have yet to read one. Anyone put these two head to head yet?

DrOctagon: Both amps have a loop-out, so he can burn them in at the same time with one source. Even if he were to put on 150 hours, that's only 6 1/4 days, which puts him well within the 15-Day grace period.

I don't know how the hell you could wait that long though, I'd be A/Bing them about 20 minutes after the box arrived at my house

Should I burn them in? I dont believe in it - so I dont know if I should.

I'll make sure to take VERY VERY good care of the amps so that Justin gets the returns in tip top shape. I know he might lose money - but lets not forget that I'm losing money (in a sense) too. So I want to make sure that the money I spend is on the right product.

I'm not sure if I can sell them for 95% of the original, the buyer would be better off buying from Justin if that's the case. Maybe 90%.. but I'm not made of cash, and Justin said it was OK to return - I asked him straight out.

It's part of business, if you dont want returns, then dont venture into business.

Aye.
Though it is sad to see smart people like you abuse the good faith intentionally

What do you want me to do? Seriously, what can I do?

I want to choose the best amp for my setup... I cant audition, I dont even know what I'm buying - I'm only going by hearsay.... what should I do?

Tell me a cost effective way of doing this.

Before you critique what I do, notice that by doing this I get to help others who ask about the Lite and DPS as well. Also, my review could be potentially good for Justin's business as I noticed that a lot more people are looking into the DPS as a possible upgrade path.

But, seriously, what should I do? You tell me I'm abusing it, tell me what to do then.

They have those return policies because they know that the buyers will most likely be satisfied with the product and not want to return it. However, mass buys like this seems like...I dunno...

As long as Justin said he's cool with it, I guess it's gravy.

He's confident you'll write a good review and boost his sales.

I just called him like 2 minutes ago asking him if he was cool with it because if he wasnt, I was just gonna cancel the whole order and he wouldnt have the hassle of the returns.

He said, "I have no problem with it."

So, its cool.

When the amps get here and I'm not working, I'll run them through their paces. I dont feel amps burn in so I wont give them more than 24 hours to stretch their legs.

Ill do my comparo after. I wont post my impressions until I have settled in what I want and returned the amps I didnt want. I'll take notes and listen to an eclectic mix of songs.

Also, I will run a bass extension test on all 4 and see if my spl meter can detect a difference between the amps.

Lastly, I will take pictures.
