Ok, I want to make the best decision with regards to the amp... so I have decided to get the amps and do an in-home comparo.

I bought the following:
- Headamp Gilmore GS1
- Headamp Gilmore Lite
- Headamp GLite DPS (dedicated powersupply)
- Headamp GLite Elpac powersupply

I will receive these sometime this week and I will compare them in my system and I will keep the one I prefer the most. I will take price/performance ratio into consideration and will decide accordingly.

If anyone wants me to write up a comparison, let me know.

3 days and counting!

i will guess that you will not hear significant differences between any of the three setups and will torment over the decision to keep the gs-1 over what is a relatively minor improvement in sound. i am anxious to see.

Please write a comparison!

Practically everyone here on these forums wants to know how the GL (elpac) compares to the GL (DPS) and the GS-1. Everyone would love you!

Your 650's are in for a treat? What about your ears

Oh, and I'm just curious, but the Gilmore Lite comes with the Elpac correct? For a second I thought you paid for it, but then I remembered that they are automatically shipped with the Lite's, am I right?

Since I'm lazy and at work, what's the price difference between the GS-1 and the Lite+DPS?

$250 difference.

I was under the impression that if you bought the GL + DPS as a package ($500) then you will not get the Elpac.

The GLite comes with the elpac... but if you order the DPS, the elpac doesnt come with it.

Sooo... I had to order and pay for the elpac - just for you guys!!

I'm taking it for the team!!

I should add...

I talked to Justin and I told him that I wouldnt be able to keep all the amps and the extras when I decide - so he knows that he will be getting some returned items. He was cool with it so everything's A-ok at this point.

Edit:
I just realized that I have $1300 in amps coming.... AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHat have I done??!

Dano.. if that is true, then it is a simple decision. No significant differences but upgrade from my headphone out - then I keep the GLite.

If no significant differences from each other AND no significant difference from the headphone out - then I keep none.

If the GS1 and the GLite + DPS are truly equal AND an upgrade from both the GLite and the HK headphone out - then this will be a hard one to decide on.

If the GS1 is better than all - then the GS1 stays.

So, will the GS-1 have a stepped attenuator. I think if the power supplies are pretty good in all of them, the attenuator would make more of an influence.

Secondly, for $1300 you should have commissioned a Dynahi which will smoke them all hands-down.

No dynahi... and no stepped attenuator on the GS1.

$1300 yes, but I am returning some after.

You will get pretty busy with burning in all those amps.

Either you actually have that many sources, managed to borrow or will use a couple of T-cables. I am not sure I would like to use the latter method my self. If you decide to burn them in in series, as apposed to parallel, your 14 day return policy will not be enough...

I too well get seated and listen to your comparison with badly hidden enthusiasm.

Because, I actually think you are a bit crazy

He can use the loop out on the GS-1 and connect them to the same source. In fact, the lite also has a loop out. Just use the same interconnect on the loop out Joey and you will have a near identical comparison.

sacd lover,

quick question - is the loop out completely passive? My only experience with tape /loop outs is from the eddie current hd300, and im pretty sure that was completely passive because it worked even when the amp was turned off.

My GS-1 is in the mail and I should get it by the end of the week. I plan on spending a good part of the weekend comparing it to the Gilmore Lite w Elpac I already have. I'll post my impressions sometime in the future.

The GS-1 was a particularly nice treat when I had it in my system, I fell in love with it and if I had the money it never would have left. I'll be interested to hear what you feel the differences between the Lite and GS-1 are.
