IMR R3 Halcyon, R3 Phase, R3 Semper - Discussion / Impressions Thread

Having finally got to try Tenmark Whirlwinds with my ATEN R2, R2 Reds and RAH's, I can't wait for my R3 Halcyon delivery.

The one thing missing for me was getting the ideal seal with any the tips I had tried, foams and silicone including INAIRS and Comply for foam, Spinfits and included tips for silicone. I thought my requirements were only going to be satisfied with a set of custom moulded tips. Fret no more Whirlwinds have me covered.

Yes, I just thought of that, I thought I'd go for Samper, and I said to myself it's better to wait for the price to go down when the 2021 models come out, and at the same time read the reviews and see if they're worth it.

You would probably have to rely on returns or B stock as it seems all future builds will be limited runs

Seems like everyone was praising Dunu Luna on NYC CanJam. Wonder if Semper can compete with it.
Been watching that Dunu Luna like a hawk.

Same with the Hiby R8

Well the Luna has the advantage of being a single driver.

I own the Final Audio A8000 its competitor. The A8000 is amazing, I'm surprised everyone likes the Luna more. I feel like it is a matter of taste though and not that the Luna is better. A8000 is U while somehow magically keeping voices forward. So it has amazing subbass/midbass and treble extension, but tries to go for transparency for everything in between. Putting an effort to make sure no song will sound muddy.

The reviewers description seem to describe the Luna to be a subtle V/Harman.

Imr Rah fans would probably be better suited with the Luna. So semper may be a competitor.

But I got my imr stuff, so the Final Audio A8000 is way better for me if I want a break from such sound. I guess the A8000 are the Andromedas tweaked closer to 2020 taste and with no phasing complexities since it is using a single driver. Also has a nice fast decay to high notes and keep a good decay to lower notes.

Hi, I’m thinking of upgrading my aten to either the pb one or halcyon, which of these do you think will be the bigger/better upgrade ? Thanks
I'm afraid it's not possible to say before we can listen to the Halcyon...
PB one is a big update, we know it because we saw Rah and we know PB one is similar but with bigger planar driver, Halcyon is still a dark horse.

I solved this problem by ordering both: I hope to receive them, compare and then I'm going to sell one of them.

I'm not sure I helped, but nobody probably can at the moment

I had all three R1, Aten, RAH. Waiting on PB One. IMR house sound is great! They are similar but with differences. Aten is this open back type of sound. RAH has more detail, not by much, but enough to notice. Maybe because of the planar driver. Going back to Aten was a little bit redundant, but they are great IEM with a shallow profile, much easier to wear than RAH. Difference from R1 to Aten was open back sound/sound stage and bigger 15mm DD - more air moving ( better bass ? ). From Aten to RAH you get more detail, definitely more closed back yet still great sound stage. With Aten you lose a bit of bass due to open back design, it is not bad by any means, IMR bass is definitely there, just not as impactful. RAH has detail and great bass, also they are very light and easy to wear.

Piezo ceramic twitter is nice, but i think it is a bit too aggressive and could be replaced by a planar driver. Halycon doesnt interest me because it retains piezo twitter. Now a combination of a DD+Planar+EStat should be very interesting. More detailed and transparent than the RAH ????

What was your thoughts on the rah, did you like them, was they worth the money ?

Oh yea, RAH was totally worth it. Planar driver made a difference. It is a very nice IEM. As for PB One, i expect it to be same as RAH, only black color and with a bit of exclusivity added. 12mm vs 10mm planar might not make much difference audibly. I am a big fan of the IMR 15mm DD bass sound. EDP is a lovely concept, i bet it is going to be comfortable and well sounding IEM. But once you try Aten and RAH with their 15mm DD, any other IEM with smaller 6-13mm DDs just doesnt sound the same in the lower registers. Even if the frequency response is the same, the volume of air being moved is smaller.
Once you hear the detail on the RAH everything else becomes irrelevant, why listen to IEMs that do not reproduce all frequencies quite the same.
My opinion can differ from others cause we all hear differently.

I already have the aten and I love it, if I sell the aten and with my discount code I could pick up the pb one for under £200. Would you say it was worth it ?

How does the rah compare with other IEMs you have owned ?
