IMR R3 Halcyon, R3 Phase, R3 Semper - Discussion / Impressions Thread

Why wait on the Halcyon, when the Red model is closed and well praised for its usage scenario.

Or is that a different sound signature?
I think Rah is a very good middle ground between open and close back.

Closed back are mostly sounding too congested. Fully open back will leak too much

Thanks for all the info everyone. Still not 100 percent decided.

I can’t justify buying both and I already have the aten.
If you had to pick pb one or halcyon which would you choose and why ?
I have the Aten and Rah. Both leak - if you commute on noisy public transport you will have to run these loud to drown out the exterior sound. I don’t listen in an office environment since I rarely can sit and listen at work, but at home my wife can hear the sound leaking from both.

PB One will leak as much as the Rah. I don’t know about the Halcyon but clearly they will leak in and out when set open.

I like the Reds - not sure they are a much of a step down over Rah or PB One.

I am an IMR fan, and fortunate enough to be able to indulge in the hobby. I have the Zenith, Aten, Rah, and Red, with the Rah my favorite and Red next; hard (for me at least) to say why. They both have a rich texture with great bass and nice treble, though no one gets an IMR IEM for treble extension, but it is there. The Rah just have much more presence, while the closed back nature of the Reds mean I can listen to them in more settings. My Zenith and Aten have been retired for the time being. I also have the Halcyon, PB One, and EDP on order.

Do you think the halcyon will combine the sound quality of the rah with the usability of the red ?

If you could only pick pb one or halcyon which would you have gone for ?

I don’t think any of us can predict the Halcyon’s sound - we are all rolling the dice...

if only one then the Halcyon, only because I have the expectation the PB One will be close to the Rah and I already have the Rah.

Good luck with your decision - I hope you love whichever you choose!

Damn that is a bugger.
I really appreciate Bobs decision to delay Semper as there is a lot of uncertainty ahead and people have other worries than spending 1k on iems. But i still was hoping to see them released mid autumn.

Was really eager to step up my game from Rah.

Now just need to find out whats that mysterious product that is coming out end of year.

Why don’t you order the pb one or halcyon, the pb one should be an upgrade on the rah, I’m unsure on the halcyon but if you don’t like it you could sell it very easily and probably for its original asking price due to the rarity

Nah they never were on my list.

Obviously no way to know for sure. But i can bet Halcyon will not be an upgrade. According to Bob its a slightly different more mid centric tuning. And PB One is not going to be a massive sensation just because it comes with 2mm bigger planar drive then Rah. I just dont see any of those to options worth spending money on when i already own Rah.

I mean even Semper will have to be very impressive to top Rah. But Bob confidently confirmed that it would be a decent upgrade.

Oh well. As i said i doubt Semper would have sold well. Or at least not as well as before covid crisis

Its not like i need to change Rah anyways, im more then happy with then. Was just curious what else can IMR achieve.

Do we know anything at all about the new mysterious
iem. Was in for the Semper but do not want to wait until 2021.

... maybe it won’t be an iem but those full-size headphones using an adapted version of the Aten driver.

Which has got my atention for sure. I really need new cans too. Also hoping IMR can make them adjustible to be open or closed backs.
I would also hope it will not cost a lot. As it is not my primary listening gear.
