That's why I like more having the computer in another room and using extension cables. The problem is quality cables aren't cheap, but I don't use quality cables. And for example, one can use a remote control like the Ati Remote Wonder which is very nice specially if you are using your PC from distance. The inconvenient is of course, when a guest has to sleep in the living room

But well, he has to stand it, my pc is not shutting down

I have something like that..but its really only 1 cable from room to room. I setup a small server to play with Server 2003. I setup a small lan in my house and ran 1 cat5e to another room, put the machine in the closet with just a keyboard and power plugs...then i remote desktop whenever i need it. Its just a file server now, but going to play with Active Directory and see what i can learn =)

What really helps with my system is vibrapods under the systemcase.
Unless a fan really makes abnormal noise, then I hit the case, hard.
Why should I care, assembledc the thing myself (under the asumption my brother did it so I could do it to, turned out later he had it pieced together. anyway, took my < 3 hours to complete and install everything).

Hi KrooLism,

I just ordered this, a mate has this gear in his PC and it's completely inaudible from 1 metre away, unless an optical drive is spinning.

About $320 delivered here in AUD.

The fan wont fit in most PC cases so you have to cut a new hole in the side, top or bottom and fit it. Cover the hole with some mesh!

You also have to suspend the HD from elastic or something to get rid of vibrations. This is assuming you don't have a loud video card.

Tell me about it. It's the single most problematic thing about switching to a computer as the main rig. My PowerMac G5 whines even when idle, which is reason no. 1 why I'm probably going to forgo power and upgrade-ability for a quiet little Mac mini.

Thanks for all the advice.

I'm definitely going to do something about this fan.

The box being in a different room idea is sweet. Not sure whether my landlord would approve of a hole in the wall. But best to ask for forgiveness than permission.

Absolutely! The new ones are plenty powerful and they are dead quiet, even when the fan runs. Yes, they do have one but you can't hear it unless your ear is literally pressed against the vent.

Also, bit-perfect optical out is standard. It's hard to go wrong with one of these unless you're editing videos or are a hardcore gamer.

I watercool my computer. I use this in particular: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835106063 . It's somewhat loud with the fan all the way up (sounds like a small room fan on the lowest setting). However when I have the fan all the way down (most of the time) all I hear is the water pump. I also use a 'quiet' case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811129155 . The powersupply's fan only activates at a certian tempurature which keeps it very quiet. I also have one 120mm fan in front on the lowest setting (has a high medium and low setting) on high but the case muffles it so much I can't hear it at all. I also have a blowerfan below my video card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835200018 which is completely silent.

Watercooling is safe and effective as long as you watch everything the first time you turn it on (uv reactive coolant and a blacklight is a must). I had one leak that went right onto my video card but the coolant wasn't conductive so it was perfectly fine.

I say go for it it's relatively cheap and extremely effective.
