yeap, they did, isn't it hilarious???)))
i was going to jump in that train but told myself to hold on since it's not clear. But now - i wouldn't. Heard the ihifi 960 pro - wasn't impressed at all.

Well, I personally like the sound of the dual core 960, so I guess we all have different preferences...  In any event, if the 990 has dual Wolfson 8740 DACs, then Xuelin has altered their previously planned PCB; if you look at a picture of the 990 board, it clearly shows PCM1792 DAC.  Here is a link on Xuelin's website:  http://www.i-hifi.com/index.php/product.html

Yup. I love the sound out of the original 770 which I believe also has the WM8740 dac. In fact, most people who have the original 770 seem to really like the SQ. So imo the 990 has a good chance of sounding great.

I already have cowon Plenue D, so I need a step up from that. Some real upgrade.thought 990 would be likely a candidate for my future upgrade, turns out it's not. Wolfson loses to PCM1792. Though it sounds great. I just want something much better than wolfson) glad for you guys!

Yeah, I guess Xuelin did pull another switcheroo...  I have gone to the Taobao site and all the ads I saw show pictures of the 990 board, and guess what?  They all show dual Wolfson 8740 DACs.  They are notorious for doing things like this, with absolutely no advance messaging to consumers.  However, all the Xuelin players I have (IMO) possess really very good sound quality, so I will be surprised if the 990 suffers in this respect.  My major problem with Xuelin, and the reason I will not buy another one of their DAPs, is their extremely simplistic firmware features.  The only thing that has salvaged my Xuelin players is Rockbox...  Here is a link to one of the Taobao ads:  https://world.tmall.com/item/536660271645.htm#detail

I'm going to sit this one out, but for anyone who may be interested in getting the new Xuelin 990, Penon Audio now has the player in stock and is selling for $330, at least for now (price includes a 32 gb microsd card and expedited shipping).  So, this price is closer to what Xuelin has advertised on the Asian forums...  Here is the link to Penon Audio's site: http://penonaudio.com/XUELIN-IHIFI990

In order to try to help the development of rockbox for the newest 770c (sold after june 2016) I decided to open my device. My main objective was to identify the model of the lcd as the error we seem to be getting when we install the old firmware is get a reversed mirror image.
Unfortunately under the main board everything seems to be glued and the access it's very hard, nevertheless here are some pictures and part codes that I have found.

Part codes:
rockchip: rk2705a-b
ram: em639165ts
flash: 29f64g08cbaaa

cable connecting the screen: fpc-y24160-a

Hopefully, XVortex is looking in and can make something out of your efforts...  His previous Rockbox ports have greatly increased the value of Xuelin's 800 and older version of the "new" 770C.  Also he's benefited owner's of the original 770....

I continued to work on my 770c and this are my findings / results.
From my search online based on the type of flat cable the LCD controller is an ILI9341 after checking examples of the cmd codes and its datasheet it seems like the same used on the old new device, which makes sense as the device with the wrong firmware still shows something.
From the datasheet the part that controls the way the screen is drawn is the cmd 0x36 (36h)

on the code from XVortex the data being sent is the 0x48 or  01001000

So the first thing I changed was to disable the BGR command and with that the color became correct. Afterwards I disabled MX and the screen became correctly rotated but inverted, so I reverted back to 1 on MY added 1 to MX (0xC0).
Using this I got:

The player seems to be working correctly I will test it a little bit more, also does anyone one know if other that the screen anything was changed in this last iteration of the device ?

I don't know a thing about the new 770C (post June 2016), but it looks like you are bringing the Rockbox port for it to fruition.  Will you be able to post a download at some point, so others can Rockbox the new, new 770C?  Thanks for all your efforts here...
