  The original 770 (Wolfson DAC 8740)

OK, for anyone who still feels the Xuelin nomenclature for the 770 models is very confusing, the firmware designations are also somewhat challenging.  Not counting XVortex's rockbox firmware for the original 770 (DAC 8740), I have 3 different Xuelin versions of firmware for the 770 (DAC 8740).  On the player, these versions are named:  ihifi_v2.02; 770-8740_v2.01; and NEW770-8740_v1.04.  I hope one of these will work for you....

  After updating to rockbox max volume decreased by 50-60%. Has anyone encountered this problem? upgrade to old firmware didnt help. (Ihifi 770 old 8740)

Yes, the max volume is decreased with the Rockbox firrmware.  Try using the firmware denoted as:  HIF-8740-D19122 (firmware version  770-8740_v2.01) and under system settings, go to power limit and select power more.  This returned my player's max volume to original levels...

For anyone who may be interested in further investments in Xuelin DAPs, Xuelin is set to release their new "flagship" player later this month.  The DAP will be called the 990, It will be priced at about US $300.  Here is a link to the pre-order site on Tabao that has some information on the player...

 If I thought Xuelin had vastly improved their firmware development, then I might invest in one of these...but, I most likely will sit this one out.  I'm sure sound quality will be excellent, but I'm afraid the firmware will be sorely lacking...  Rockbox anyone???

Hi everyone! I got my NEW 770C few days back and there is constant hiss in the left channel. Tried with several headphones, rockbox and original firmware. The hiss is louder in the right headphone socket. Did anyone have the same issue? Is there some way to fix it or should i just return the player? Thanks...

sounds like you have a defective player; check with with the vendor that sold it to you, but it sounds like you need to get your player replaced with another one.

Hi, I received my NEW 770C yesterday, then I flashed Rockbox, and after the player rebooted I ended up with a upside down, flipped screen.  Can anyone help me?  I tried flashing back to stock firmware but the screen problem is still there, upside down and flipped.  I have no idea what to do at this point.  I used an old laptop with Windows XP SP3 32-bit for the flashing and as far as I could tell everything was fine. I got to the final step with "INFO: Upgrade OK".  I did a google search and there's only one other person on Baidu with the exact same problem. His player looks the same as mine from the back. Here's the link to that thread with images: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/4705667101

Any help would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Edit: Found one more person on the Russian 4pda forum with the same problem and better screenshots: http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=728998&st=1680

@Mathos, I'm not sure what to tell you.  I don't understand why your player is now displaying Xuelin firmware inappropriately.  Did you happen to check the firmware on the player before you tried to Rockbox it?  I have changed the firmware on my new 770C several times (just so I could document the procedure to help others), but I have never encountered this problem.  What Xuelin firmware did you install back on the player?  I have the version NEW770-8740_v2.02 on mine and it works just fine.  If you are using another version, let me know and I can send you the file for v2.02...  Good luck

Thank you for your reply, jdog!  My player came with firmware version 2.04b, and it was on 2.04b before I rockboxed it.  I couldn't find a download to version 2.04b anywhere, not even at the Baidu Xuelin forum, so I could not try to flash back to 2.04b.  (Apparently some people got new players that came with firmware v2.04c now: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/4724859555)   I tried to flash back to NEW770-8740_v2.02 (that's what it says from what I can make out in system info); it worked but my screen is still upside down and mirrored.

Sorry to hear your troubles. I own the original 770 (non c version) and ended up using the files meant for the c version and that had caused my screen to go warped and distorted.

Maybe you could state which model you have - do note that there is 2 770c versions as well! Choosing the right matching firmware will hopefully fix your problem

I've barely touched the Rockbox and I'm still loving this even with an Ostry kc06a. Damn good pairing!

I have the NEW 770c model with WM8740 and not the old one with WM8718.  The back of the player says manufacturing date is 2016-06, MSIP-REI-HHH-770.  I thought Rockbox was made for the newer version of 770c which I have.  Maybe the internals changed for newly made 770c players and this caused the problem?  A second person with this screen mirror problem posted in the Russian forum 4pda (http://4pda.ru/forum/index.php?showtopic=728998&st=1700).  This makes 4 people who ended up with this after flashing Rockbox including me and the one from the Chinese Baidu forum.  We could potentially see more and more people with this problem if it's some kind of hardware change.  Another possibility is that maybe firmware 2.04 and above isn't compatible with Rockbox?  I think the others with this problem also bought players that came with newer firmware because their reports started about 10 days ago.

@Mathos,

You may be correct re: change in the internals of the New 770C.  This may explain why the newer Xuelin firmware versions are not readily available, and why you are having problems with the v2.02.  I would suggest that you email Xuelin and ask them for a copy of the v2.04b firmware and see if they will send it.  They have sent me copies of firmware before; if you are able to put the v2.04 back on your player, and it works again, then this would suggest something different than the older versions of the New 770C.  My new 770C (8740) does not have a date on it, so something may well have changed...  The email address I have used before is sxj1974@163.com.  Just tell them you tried to put an earlier version of their firmware on your player and it is not working and you would like to have a copy of firmware v2.04b.  Hopefully they will respond pretty quickly.  If you don't hear back from Xuelin soon, you might contact the vendor who sold you the player, and they may be able to get the firmware copy for you.  Penon Audio helped me with this before; in fact, even if you didn't order your player from Penon, they may help you anyway...  Good luck.  Also, you may want to PM XVortex directly and see if there is anything he might be able to do to modify the Rockbox firmware to get it to work on your player....

Thank you for the helpful suggestions jdog!  I did as you said and emailed the vendor, Penon Audio, and the Xuelin email address you provided.  Hopefully one of them responds soon.  If I manage to get the firmware I will flash it and see if that fixes the problem.  Meanwhile I'll keep an eye on both the Russian and Chinese Xuelin forums.
