Ihifi 770 & 770c Thread

I almost exclusively use wav files for this player. Once a week I'll encounter one playback with a scratchy glitch at the beginning of a tune but yeah, it fares better (and sounds better with wav, than say flac). How much did it cost you tax and import? I paid mine for about 170Can all in all from massdrop... I don't think I'll be doing business with them because you get stupid import fees to the max!

I paid 120 canadian shipped brand new from an eBay selling based in Hong Kong. They won't be using a courier so it will take a while but at least I'll dodge the bs brokerage fee lol.

As long as you recognize that the Xuelin players are all basically WAV and MP3 players you should be quite happy with the 770C.  I really don't understand why Xuelin has been so remiss with new meaningful firmware upgrades to provide better file support.  I have found that the 770C does pretty well with less compressed FLAC files, but a player of this date/age really should perform better with FLAC files...  None of the Xuelin players natively support AAC or ALAC files.   The new 770C appears to be fairly popular in Asia, so maybe someone will develop a Rockbox port for it...  I can tell you that Rockbox is the only thing that has salvaged the Xuelin 960 for me...  The Xuelin iHiFi 800 is a nice DAP, but for someone just getting into DAPs (esp a Xuelin DAP), I would recommend the 770C over the 800, esp since the 800 costs ~$250 and the 770C is ~$100.  I really think you will enjoy the sound quality of the 770C and on balance, you will be happy with your purchase...  I regularly scan the Chinese forums, so if/when a new firmware update for the 770C is released, I will post in this thread...  Good luck.

Ya that's acceptable to me, or rather, much better than anything else I can get in that price. I'm ok with having to stick to WAV for lossless playback, not too concerned about the extra space it uses over FLAC. I am hopeful that someone ports rockbox. I read your thread on using rockbox on the 960 and it sounds like it takes full advantage of the apparently great hardware Xuelin uses. Thanks for the info and for being so dedicated to helping people with these players.

Fwiw, I don't have a lot of flac files, but I haven't encountered issues with them on my 770. I suppose they are not compressed (I'll have to look at the foobar settings I was using when I created them).

OH, actually, quick question for anyone that can answer. I just noticed that the 770c that I ordered is the upgraded version with the 8740 dac which is the same as the original 770. Does that mean if I need to update firmware at some point, I use the 770 firmware? or is there a difference firmware available for the 770c upgraded?

jdog is probably our resident specialist in regards to the 770(c) if not all the xuelin players lol.

Make sure to use the specific fw for your 770c dap. Otherwise you'll encounter crashes and broken looking screens every single time you plan on running your dap. Aside from that, we help each other out when we can.

I've been enjoying this months on end. Upgrades well with any competent amp.

1Trick Pony is absolutely correct.  Despite the similar names, all the 770s have their own, specific firmware.  I learned this first hand.  From what I can tell, Xuelin has been somewhat partial to the new 770C (Wolfson 8740), so they have been launching firmware upgrades for this player prior to releasing upgrades for the other models.  The Chinese forum is full of posts calling for the next firmware upgrade for the new 770C, so hopefully they will come out with something new soon; all these players could really benefit greatly with proper firmware development, the hardware is all there...  So just be careful to select the proper firmware with future updates for the new 770C.  But if you were to put the wrong firmware on the player, this can be fixed easily by going back and putting in the correct firmware...

Awesome, thanks for the help. I'll probably throw the latest version on when I get the player in the mail. I'm big on running the latest firmware on devices lol. From everything I've read it definitely sounds like better software development would make this thing as good as a lot of much more expensive players. Either way, I think I will be satisfied with it.

Be sure to check and see what firmware version is on the 770C when you get it.  The latest version came out in September/October 2015, so your player may come with the new firmware already installed.  Look under System Setting, then search for System information, the latest firmware version is 2.02.
