IHIFI 760 + 770 (pg 13) + 800 (pg 25) : From makers of the 812V2 / 960

"How do you tell if it's anodized or painted?
I sure can't. Maybe other owners of the 770 can comment on it.
I own the black version, it do look sleek. The glass is a magnet for fingerprint and dust.
The UI is an acquired taste, an early 90s gameboy got better UI than it. Lol"

Hard to describe exactly how to tell but I can tell as soon as I handle a product. If you have seen the FiiO X1 the sides are anodized aluminum while the back is painted plastic. I know the body of the 770 is all metal so the manufacturer could have used either depending on the type of metal used. Obviously both finishes can scratch whereas paint can chip and anodize will not chip. The Colorfly C3 is made of a metal other than aluminum and it is a painted finish if you have one to compare.

Not a issue, 770 comes with a leather holder, where you have to peel off some sort of double sided sticker.
From there the 770 is stick firmly onto the leather case. It protect the 770 even as you drop it as no side of the player is flush with the leather casing. Obviously if you drop it high and hard enough you're going to dent/damage it.
This is my first portable player so I have not had any experience with the players you mention before.

Just made a twitch buy on this.

I found it on ebay for $115 shipped from a reputable seller.

yeah I'm stoked!

Was going to get some ciems but this was just too good
They'll have to wait...

I just wanted to know, do you have to stick the leather cover on?
Could someone clarify? It sounds really cheap and unreliable to me right now...

There are two output, one is better than the other. Definitely it's a Chinese dap that is good enough but nothing else

Can anyone comment (theoretically or from experience) on how the 770 compares to Cowon J3?  That's my main player right now, but I am debating giving this one a shot especially at the deal price.

For all you that are interested in this player, I think this is a great deal.  Although I can't compare the 770 with the Cowon J3 or a current iPod, I much prefer the sound quality that I get from the 770 compared to the old iPod I had (gen 4, I think).  The best current comparison I can make is to the Colorfly C3/C&C BH amp combo; however, I like the 770 better because the background is absolutely silent and you don't need a separate amp (at least for all the iems I own).  I disagree with Rollk2's (nothing personal) assessment re: "2 HO, but only one is decent".  I do prefer one HO over the other, but it really comes down to the iem or headphone you decide to use, along with the sound quality you prefer.  Some of my earphones sound better out of one HO, whereas others sound better out of the other.  The majority of my songs are in 320 mp3 format and they sound quite good.  You don't have to attach the player to the leather case, but the case is not a "holster type" case.  While it is true that there are lots and lots of music players out there, I would definitely agree that for US $99 + $15 (for shipping) that this is a very good bargain for a nice player.  Especially when you consider the vendor; absolutely none better on ebay!

Yeah I just noticed that too.

Everything else seems to be the same though.
I can't seem to find any information on the c version and can't find anything on the differences between the two chips.
Can anyone shed some light on this?

I'm still going through with my order but I don't have anything else to compare it to so that won't be much help

Sheesh, that's not confusing at all!

Although I'm kind of glad that my 770 didn't just plummet in price for not apparent reason, I was happy for other "to be" buyers, because the 770 is great.

Anyway, it will be interesting to find out more about the different chips.

Gee,I thought the vendor was running some kind of holiday special....  Xuelin does have a tendency to modify their players without much fanfare..  They did this with the 960 player; I don't know what to say about this 770c model.  I know that I got the first modified 960 version that cost ~$400 US and then I subsequently got the 960 dual DAC version that was ~$329.  The dual DAC version sounds better to me, so I am still surprised that dual DAC version is still cheaper than either of the original 960 versions.  The Wolfson 8740 DAC has a better SNR than the 8718, but I have no idea how this will affect sound quality on the 770c.  I for one, however, would be very surprised if they released a version that has poorer sound quality than the original 770.  I would suggest you contact bigbargainonline (Penon Audio) to get an opinion on this newer version; they've always been very helpful to me...  By the way, it looks like Xuelin is also working on an 800 model that looks quite interesting as well, here is a link that shows the player along with some brief details:  http://r.search.yahoo.com/_ylt=AwrTHRUvy4xU.loAezVXNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTBzY245ZnZqBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMTIEY29sbwNncTEEdnRpZAM-/RV=2/RE=1418542001/RO=10/RU=http%3a%2f%2fwww.zasv.com%2fthread-2558690-1-1.html/RK=0/RS=gNX7RiGWYHx4SXKgAO8H4_x3txQ-
