iFi Zen Stream: Setup, Tips, Tricks...

Last night I glued rubber feet 1 cm high and changed the power supply on the ZS - Sbooster with ultra module set to 12V.
The result is a drop in temperature by several degrees, but also a more natural and transparent sound with excellent bass compared to the iFi elite power supply.
Temperature was measured after 12 hours of constant work.
Have you tried sticking some form of rubber or silicone feet with the ZS? I've done that and made a difference. It's turned on 24/7 and gets a bit warm but never hot. Even without the rubber feet I never experienced overheating.
That's what I tried to tell you on July 18th (see quote above). I'm using exactly the same feet. Mine has never been too hot, but this has certainly made a difference.

Glad to see this is getting some resolution on your end, as most have said this is not an issue "overall" and more of an "oddity".

Again folks let me know your ticket numbers so I can try to follow along in solutions.

Cheers!!

Gladly but I still don't have a definitive conclusion except for the fact that the design of housing itself is not asn it shold be.
Temperature has risen by two degrees again.
I still have to try three different firmwares, I don't know if that can have any effect, but for example, with xiaomi mobile phones, upgrading the software can cause the battery life to drastically decrease and therefore heat up more.
Has anyone tested the sound after replacing the firmware?

I used my zen stream with Tidal for some months. Just today that the Tidal app shows connect with zen stream but it can't play music.
I tried factory reset, exclusive modes but it didn't help.
I tried playing music with spotify and it was good.

Any idea? something with Tidal?

I found a temporary solution, coolers from the first versions of xbox360. I used to repair them and a bunch of coolers left because 90% of them eventually broke due to poorly solved cooling, it was similar with the first PS3 or imac 27 around 2010.

Tidal recently moved on from MQA to Hi-res audio. Not sure if this has anything to do with it.

So today, my ifs stream just doesn't work anymore. Been using it with MConnect with iPad iPhone. It has always worked. But today. if I can even see my ifs streamer to select it as the source. it will only play music from qubuz. for 30 seconds maybe. The power button if I hold it. won't even turn off the streamer. I can to kill the main power supply.

I reinstall m connect app. went onto ifs/local did a factory reset. This is so disappointing. I just spent 3 hours trying to play music and all I got was 30 seconds of sound and then it just stop and is lock up again.

Put in a ticket with ifs. I was looking for some tips here. but ifs was so fast. They sent software and unbrick it basically. Now it is working.

A. huge shot out to IFI for the support and the help they give here and with their own company support tickets.

I really do like the ifs streamer with my Sbooster power supply. I was kinda bummed this morning when it didn't work but im back and blasting tunes again

Thank you IFI!!!!:gs1000smile::gs1000smile::gs1000smile::gs1000smile:

PS.MY IFI. doesn't get hot, barley warm. so everyone knows

Still waiting for the V2. One must be coming this one has too many issues.
I guess it depends what you want the ZS for. It is advertised as being a very versatile unit which was initially what attracted me to it. Plus I have an audiophile friend who said it was the best sounding unit he ever had in his system.
For me, I only needed to play my files as it accepted an SSD drive via its USB port and it had access to Tidal which were the only things I needed. Then we were promised Chromecast so I could use YouTube and Amazon Music which is a direction I wanted to head in as I was already listening via Bluetooth.

My first attempt at connecting via WiFi did not go according to plan, even though I have fibre optic BroadBand connection and my router is 3 meters away in line of sight.
I already stream my TV viewing, so I am not a dunce on the subject. Ok.....we will attempt to set up an ethernet connection.
I could write a book on all the issues I had, and lucky for this thread & Bubbas help, I managed to get up and running. Even so, I had to modify my expectations and forget about playing files directly from the unit, forget about using Amazon & YouTube Music via Chromecast, and basically use the unit only to play Tidal in Mode 3 via Ethernet.

Have to admit I was very happy with Tidal Connect & ethernet. I would get occasional connection problems, but I was able to resolve.

I still wanted to try Amazon Music, and when the offer recently came for a 4 month free trial, I took advantage of Amazon Prime day and bought a Wiim Pro for £120.
To be honest, I wasn't expecting much sonically from this unit, but I was certainly impressed with how easy it was to connect and set up. Now that I have some expertise in how it operates, I can play Amazon UHD files at maximum resolution via AlexaCast, play Tidal, YouTube Music and my files via Chromecast. It also has BlueTooth and a TOS input which I can use for my turntable via my Puffin digital phono stage.

My big question is if Wiim can manufacture a streamer that works as advertised, why cant iFi?

See, that's the problem, I don't want to have to use Alexacast, Chromecast or any other third party app. Just one app like Wiim. I don't know if ifi can't do it, or just don't care to.

so ifi sent me the firmware software to unbrick my stream. now its working perfect. Yhank you ifi!!

i use Mconnect with the stream. i have my qobuz and tidal in the app and it sees what ever is hooked up to the stream. so Ifi really doesnt need to. develope more software. plus their ifi local works pretty good with a drive i found. just my 2 cents point of view.

what really made my stream sound amazing was a SBooster power supply.
