iFi ZEN DAC discussion + impression

I'm kind of disappointed by the extreme shortage of 4.4 cable options. Despite my best efforts, I'm currently practically forced to hook up my JBL LSR305 using RCA-to-XLR. The sound I get is still more amazing than anything I've ever had before (easily eats up my previous Schiit Fulla 2), but it feels kinda silly to have an objectively better connector right freaking there but without any means to use it.

Well, no cheap ones anyway. I could find 4.4 to XLR cables, they do exist, but they're upwards of 100 bucks per meter for crying out loud: https://www.amazon.co.uk/-/en/MiCity-Auido-Balance-Replacement-Upgrade/dp/B08LV4N6KX

Just what the hell...
How about on Aliexpress?

I was trying to avoid having to use any kind of adapter that would add another weak point in the chain.

Oh wow, this is exactly what I was looking for! 30 bucks is still a lot for a cable, but at least way more reasonable than three times that price. Thank you!

I know this is the DAC page but I got in my Zen Can and WOW what a difference with the Anandas! The soundstage is so much more open and there is a holographic effect that could not be matched straight out of the AK240 even in balanced mode. And I'm not using either the bass boost or 3D effect.
I almost feel that I didn't need to upgrade to the Aryas but I'm pretty excited that I did.
Thanks for your impressions. Great stuff :beerchug:

It's even more apparent with the 4.4mm Balanced interconnect :)

I agree.

Just got myself a 4.4 mm cable to connect my zen dac and can stack. However, there is a very loud and audible hissing when listening over the balanced input. If I connect the rca cable to the stack it disappears. So it seem to me that there is some interference with the unbalanced input.

Does anybody of you experience sth similar? Or could it be a faulty unit? If yes which?

As a side note: I always had difficulty with the 4.4 mm headphone input on the zen dac. sometimes was hissing or one side of the headphone didn't play music. By turning around the cable in the connector the issue can be resolved. However slight cable movement brings back the same issues. Anybody also experienced that? Because the 4.4 mm headphone connector on the zen can works flawlessly. So I'm leaning more towards a problem in my zen dac

Balanced should get rid of grounding issues, not create them. You're not the first to experience it with iFi's 4.4mm. I find it really curious.

What is the diference with ifi zen dac original??

As in, ZEN and ZEN Signature?

Can you open up a ticket at our support platform here please: https://support.ifi-audio.com

It might be a faulty connection somewhere or perhaps an issue inside the product.
