After researching and given my requirements and situation,I have purchased the zen dac v2 for my HD600. Any tips or tricks for using the dac? I’ll be using it balanced and on my laptop.
Can’t wait for mail call.

This has been my impressions.I’m shopping for an upgrade to my HD600. I’m currently running it off my laptop with a 4.4mm dongle. What can I expect if I went with the zen dac for my HD600?
Macbook pro ———> Audioquest Coffee usb ———> ifi zen dac V2 (updated firmware) ———> Sennheiser hd660s
I described u perfection above, absolute perfection. Creamy, liquid, gentle, everything is where they r supposed be kind of reproduction of music.
I would suggest go for the zen dac without any hesitation. Then u can tweak by adding aa good usb of your choice to ur setupbut sign up for qobuz first.

What's in the firmware update that made it better? It really becomes a beast after the firmware update.
I don’t know what is in it, but 660s sound like mama’s boy to my ears as in everything sounded how it supposed to, nothing shined. With the firmware update everything is still in its place and eveything shines without anything overshadowing anything. Overall my whole setup became impressive and exciting rather than everything sounds right. What's in the firmware update that made it better?
It is really tough since I can’t A/b them. I think, I am getting more texture, resolution and openness now.

Oh, I really think you made a good choice. I just compared to rega ear headphone amp and smsl vmv d1se dac, which pricewise should surpass zendac v2, nope. It sounded rather miss match compared to zen dac v2. I guess 600 is more forward sounding than 660s. I bet u will be impressed. Can't wait to try it!

Only thing i'm worried is the 300ohm on the HD600 and the power output of the zen dac. Might need to pickup the ZEN CAN laterOh, I really think you made a good choice. Thank you for answering the first question. Do you perhaps know the answer to the second one as well regarding the rear balanced out?Although this most likely isn't related to our software, perhaps you could ask our support team here: https://support.ifi-audio.com
Our support staff handles various issues daily and perhaps they'll be able to help you out.
We god numerous feedback that our ZEN products sound better upon powered via our iPower PSUs. Any 5V charger will do fine as long as its pins are correct, but ours are super-quiet.

Also, for cable routing reasons, I would prefer to use the balanced output on the back of the unit. I do notice the rear output is slightly less audible (I assume there is a power difference). Is there any downside to using the rear out as my primary output source instead of the front headphone balanced out?
Please use either RCAs or 4.4mm balanced output if you intend to use a separate amp, while the output on the front is for headphones only, thanks!

I pass the 12o’clock position very rarely if that is any help. I am very curious about zen can as well because it is a class a amp. I think u will be fine until u get a zen can. Or how about a pair of 660s, 150 ohm?Only thing i'm worried is the 300ohm on the HD600 and the power output of the zen dac. Might need to pickup the ZEN CAN later

Using the Zen Dac V2 on my PC (Win10 64 bit), do I want 7.3b firmware and 5.12 drivers? Was confused about which firmware version to download between 7.3/7.3b/7.3c.
(Currently I am on 7.2 firmware with 3.20 drivers.)

5.12 driver, yes. As for the firmware, it depends on your needs. If you listen to DSD files at resolutions greater than 256, then get the 'b' version. Otherwise the regular 7.3 should work fine, even if you don't need MQA.

I don't think I have any DSD files after looking, and only mp3 320kbps & FLAC files mainly. I don't use TIDAL or anything requiring MQA, just running Spotify, Foobar2000 & PC games mainly. I'll just grab the regular 7.3 then. Thank you for your help and explanation!5.12 driver, yes. As for the firmware, it depends on your needs.
