iFi micro iDSD Black-Label - In-Depth Review
Nov 27, 2019 at 5:30 AM Post #586 of 1,056
Just found this thread and interest on this versatile, multi-tasking unit.

May i get your feedback how good its sound compare with Xduoo-XD05. Pairing with HD650 ?

If the Burr Brown DAC is good, may want to use its DAC for my HIFI set - Auralic Aries Mini <> Micro IDSD <> Krell KAV 400xi <> Sonus Faber Concertino Domus. ?

Any advise is appreciated :D

p/s: I have own ifi audio IEMatch due to Hiby R6 high output impedance :)

Issue I was having with slow music playing had nothing to do with ifi after all! It was a problem with my iOS devices as they did the same odd thing in my car.

Tried to open a trouble ticket on the ifi site but I keep getting a message "ENTER YOUR EMAIL CORRECTLY OR WE CANNOT REPLY TO YOU" and of course I've entered it correctly many times with different emails.

Can you please shoot us a mail (with nfo that you can't open up a ticket and your issue) at info@ifi-audio.com?

It's amazing how well this product has held up over time. A true testament to quality!

Sure is. WE'd have a hard time having all its functions packed inside the same or smaller enclosure and with better SQ at the same time. There's always a room for improvements, but with really good products it can take long.

Anyone using their iFi Micro in a phono setup? Would love to know how you have it integrated.

Currently shopping for a phono preamp to resurrect a turntable but want to be able to have it connected two ways:
Turntable > Preamp > AV Receiver
Turntable > Preamp > iFi Micros iDSD BL

The two options are so I can use the speakers if needed but also to have it connected to the iFi for headphone listening. Finding a phono preamp with two RCA outputs is difficult and RCA switchboxes seem a mixed bag. There are some phono preamps that have RCA outputs and a digital output such as this: https://www.project-audio.com/en/product/optical-box-e-phono/ but going Analogue > Digital > Analogue doesn't seem logical.

Thinking this type of things is the way to go: https://www.amazon.com/Sescom-SES-AUDIO-AB-Stereo-MP3-Switch/dp/B008BMLXAU...
...but it would be great to hear from anyone using their iFi in a similar manner

Sure. I am still waiting iDSD micro BL to be shipped...

By the way, may i ask if the latest firmware is compatible with latest Mac OS Catalina 10.15 64-bit ?

Mine work perfect with the latest Mac OS. No issues from my end.

You were faster. Thanks!

but going Analogue > Digital > Analogue doesn't seem logical.

Indeed, unless it's exclusively for recreational music playback somewhere in the background, with minimal attention to its quality. In such case going A->D->A isn't too scary.

Love my Micro BL unit and this is not an attempt to bash but merely sharing info (also not sure if it has been discussed before).

Lately, I noticed while using my BL that the right side of my headphone and IEM were louder than the left. Found out that if you do not have the “feet” on the IEMatch switch (like mines that was lost long ago), there’s a chance the switch becomes loose and the volume balance will be off.

An example is, I switch between off and ultra-sensitive for full-size headphones and IEM. While I push the switch all the way down to ultra-sensitive, there’s a chance the volume balance is off, but if you push the switch slightly up right before high sensitivity, the volume issue will be fixed.

This might be a rare case for those who lost the switch’s feet. I’ve contacted IFI and the feet are available for purchase, so I’ll weigh out that decision but I kind of like it without the feet in case of accidentally bumping it.

So FYI if it ever happens to you

I literally just noticed this yesterday as I started using IEMs with them also. I also lost the rubber cap to the switch. I am going to submit a ticket to them today.
