iFi iUSB3.0 launch. Names back in the hat and new #2 Winner! (page 24)

I've read the white paper that usb3.0 generate a lot of RFI/EMI when in use.

How you guys deal with this interference issue from usb3.0 standard that might affect the sound quality?

Thanks for the answer in advance.

Are you saying 3.0 has more RFI/EMI than 2.0? Not that I've heard of, unless you're using your network card and surfing the web on your machine. You can get all kinds of RFI that way.

My question would be, does USB 3.0 offer a benefit over 2.0 when transporting music to your DAC? I mean, it sounds right in theory, but I haven't been able to read anything that music would need that much bandwidth going to the DAC.

Um, the Mercury and Gemini cables are USB 2.0 AFAIK. So using them with the iUSB3.0 would downgrade everything back to 2.0 (which is plenty for audio). So using them (or other USB 2.0 cables) would make the 3.0 EMI/RFI issues irrelevant.

Do I get a prize for predicting the next two passive iFi products?

  1. Gemini 3.0
  2. Mercury 3.0

Been exciting to get the upcoming ifi ipower 5V. Looking at this, iusb 3.0 has better prospects and cleaner power for my project. As I looking at the picture of the back posted with the rapid charging support, does iusb 3.0 has a couple of battery cells in it? Or just support rapid charging devices?

One more thing is that, does it work without the ac power connected? Looking at the clue with android phone attached, does it work as transportable device?

So are Gemini and Mercury USB 3.0 compliant?

What will happen if someone tries to use one with say a USB 3.0 Hard Drive?

Hi,

Yes, you can use iFi Mercury or Gemini cables with iUSB 3.0 of course then you will have a USB 3.0 device that falls back to USB 2.0.

And if you connect Mercury or Gemini with USB3.0 hard drive, every thing still works but one gets USB2.0.

Cheers.

Also, I can't seem to find clarification as to whether the iPower adapter is included with the iUSB3.0. Is it?

I currently have an original iUSB-Power which comes with a "more value-oriented" power adapter.

I can attest to much improved performance using the original with a Resonessence ConceroHD DAC.

Thanks,
Sean

Yes. It has been shipping with all iFi products that require a power supply since about February.

There is nothing "value oriented" about the Ultra Low Noise power supply. Until iPower, it was the quietist such supply on the market.
