iFi iUSB3.0 launch. Names back in the hat and new #2 Winner! (page 24)

I'm not sure I understand the Dual-Port set-up. On your website, the left USB-out is marked "power", and the right one is marked "power + data". If both ports have something plugged into them, does the nano iUSB3.0 recognize that and send "data only" out of the right port?

Or ... is that controlled by the switch? It's labeled "auto" (up) and "on" (down), but in the picture is centered. In that position, does that mean it would NOT be sending power out of the right port? So if the attached DAC does not need USB-power except for a "handshake," you could theoretically start the connection with USB-power on, and then shut down the USB-power (manually) after the handshake was completed ?

Hi,

The generic USB cable has audio & power packed inside. In a hifi system, interconnects and power cables are always spaced apart to minimise RFI/EMI pickup etc.

The dual-ports allows one to use

1) Single-headed USB cable - inserted into the audio & power port
OR
2) Dual-headed usb cable - insereted into both ports to separate the audio & power transmission.

If a dual-headed cable is plugged into the (audio+power) then only data is sent out of that port. The other port (power only) for the power.

This is pre-set no need to use a switch. The Auto/On switch is different.

- Auto: works as normal

- On: the USB power line is permanently there so the PC never 'sees' a dropped connection. As sometimes when this happens, the output device is defaults back to speakers.
