iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

I need to access Qobuz, so I down loaded Mconnect Control and the Zen streamer does not show up on the devices list. I did notice that Mconnect has three versions, Mconnect Control, Player, Player Lite, and Player HD. Any help would be appreciated.

I have Player on my iPhone (I believe Player HD is for tablets and control for dedicated appliances partnered with mconnect). Works with my Zen, have you tried toggling the DNLA and Upnp services off/on as sometimes that jump starts the daemons. I run the Zen in AIO mode and just toggle services as needed.

I am seriously considering the Zen Stream, so this is good to know about Tidal. A related question: through the Zen, is mconnect still the preferred method of accessing Qobuz? Is it hi-res, gapless, easy and reliable? (I’m iOS by the way.) Or should I bite the bullet and try Roon. It seems like overkill because besides vinyl, all I do is stream Tidal and Qobuz. No audio files or storage. Thanks
I use Roon with zero issues and I highly recommend it. The Roon Bridge built into the ZS is novel amongst streamers—most act as Roon endpoints. Since the ZS is a Roon Bridge, it allows any DAC you have attached to it to function as a Roon endpoint—Roon automatically detects all the setup parameters for the attached DAC and works like a charm.

Plus Roon has a very user-friendly interface that beats any hardware GUI for high-end streamers, and allows you to access both your Qobuz and Tidal favorites and playlists in one integrated place, and has a ton of other useful features worth having. For me, I upscale all my Qobuz tracks to DSD 256, and the result sounds incredible. It’s for certain worth the relatively modest monthly fee. PM me if you have further questions about it…

Is the LED indicator working for any of y'all? I rarely look but today I realized the indicator is colorless no matter what's passed onto the Stream, e.g., HQplayer upsamples (352.8Khz) or Roon native. Firmware is 2.31.2
If both leds are out, no light, you may have turned them off.

The button on the right of the ZS has dual function, short press is lights on/off.

Other than that I do not know, lol

Cheers!!

I do not think M Control is the right app, that’s for something else.

You need M Connect they are different.

Also there are different apps for Android IOS like HD, lite,….

But you need connect not control.

Cheers!!

You need MConnect Player for Iphone and MConnect Player HD for Ipad. These are separate Apps, the former has a vertical display whereas the latter is shown with a horizontal display

I been reading this tread for a long time and been suggesting roon. Well, you need pc running consistently and monthly service on top your streaming service. I don’t see value since I have only tidal and use the connect features. I cancel the other services because they only either use airplay or third party like mconnect.

I put my zen stream on the closet and use wiim mini and with the latest updates it is now bit perfect. All functions works well, plus it has apps that cover all streaming services much like bluesound os.

Ok Mr. Wiim Mini, lol... I got some questions...

The USB C on the unit, this is for Power only is that correct? If so that only leaves the Optical for sound, Is that right?

Also this device supports at most 24/192, not that I have an issue with that but making sure, also No MQA Correct?

Does the app allow exclusive mode? I ask because without that I'm pretty sure it would be a no go for me, but I'm going to order one, and give honest opinions on sound. I will do this for the benefit of any thinking of this little device. My interest right now would be to fire back up Amazon and see if I actually get the bitrates they claim.

Also are you just a subscriber to HiFi tier of Tidal?

I still think you should start a thread on it here for the benefit of others, not just pop in here every now and then to proclaim its fantastic capabilities! :beerchug:

Just poking the bear Bro.....Easy, lol

Cheers!!

Wimm mini itself doesn't support gapless playback.
I ordered one, if it’s worth it I’ll start a thread, and post here if it can overcome some of the short comings of the ZS at the moment I will post some impressions here.

89 bucks at Amazon and a great return policy, so no biggy…

Cheers!!

I’m not here to promote product. I’m just here to give my honest opinion so your opinion may vary. After the latest updates on firmware and the apps, it made this product better. On the apps you can choose if you want to use the analog or optical plus you can set the output either variable or fixed. The apps is snappy and when you choose different connection it connect in an instant, let say airplay to tidal connect or to Spotify connect. It is bit perfect as I see my dac changed in frequency. Qoboz is bit perfect within their apps as well as using it on mconnect. I ask them questions when will be the updates be out and was given a specific date and it was delivered as promised date with no delay. Usb c is power since I have linear power supply I got clean power. Now as for the sound? Stream has smoother top end and this one has sparkle top end that don’t sound harsh. In my ear is has more natural sounding. The future updates on amazon hd is just couple months away and mqa is also coming. The only thing this thing don’t have is chromecast. For just 99 dollars, it’s no brainer. Read the Q&A on linkplay vendor on amazon they have specific answer.
