iFi audio ZEN Stream - Streaming elevated to a higher plane

I don't see why not for that working for you. The Zen Stream takes anywhere from 9-15v from it's specs (just be sure to check the Amps). I have run mine on 15 with no issue from the back of the topping P50.

Yes the Zen can be updated over WiFi..

Cheers
The P50 is the exact LPSU I have. This is reassuring. I am pretty sure the improved PS worked really well with your unit in terms of SQ.

So between the community...USB or SPDIF - which one is better mmfor most in terms of SQ. I use Roon and Tidal Connect to my SMSL SU-9 DAC. Thanks

Yep I use that power supply specifically in the area where my lonely RPI's are and the greatest feature of that PSU is that extra higher output.

I can speak too that specific DAC, but I can tell you this, I think your going to finds itt honestly depends on three DAC itself. Both of the outputs are two of the best I've personally heard, but my Schiit Bifrost likes the USB, my Gustard works better on the coax! Try em and see which is best for you!

Cheers!!

Thanks. SMSL and Gustard are very similar in implementation so I can see coax working better. It's just that I like to upsample things to DSD in Roon and I would imagine that is only possible with USB.

In my opinion, this depends on which DAC you are using and what kind of USB implementation it has.
I can't say anything about the SU-9, but in my case I clearly prefer USB, if only because you are limited to 24/192 with SPDIF.

I run Roon on the Mac Mini M1, upsampling to DSD256, into the ifi stream, and from that via USB into my iDSD - and I've never heard anything better

Super. I did use USB before but the noisy PC didn't have a low noise floor I feel....now from the Zen Stream powered by a Linear PSU...I believe it will be great. My Stream is on its way...

By the way I have very revealing Headphones:HD800S and Arya on a very revealing system. For some reason, DSD always sounds better for some reason...I upsample Tidal that way

Tried searching through this thread, anyone know how to pull a unit out of being bricked by the factory reset button?

No I'm sorry I do not, I will ask around and see if there's a solution.

What happened if I may ask?

Thank you. It's happened to several others as well. I had issues setting up my unit and decided to just try a factory reset and do a clean start. Well, after doing so the unit apparently is bricked, it just won't do anything. Sure enough, they now posted a warning on the iFi website saying you could brick your unit if you attempt a complete factory reset but it is NOT stated in their manual at all. I only found the statement on their website after doing some searches. I can get a replacement but wanted to see if others had found a way to bring it out of it's bricked state.

Wow, I didn't know that thank you for the heads up, I had to do I think three resets when I first got mine, completely user error, :joy:

I had no issue with any of them, but part of that with someone else on the Roon forum came up with my live n die by best setup procedure, wired first everything else after.

Damn, good luck bro, I still search it out.

Cheers!!

Thanks, man. So, what you are saying is it's best to do the setup wired at first and then once it's all done and working then one can switch to wifi if they choose to? Also, the factory reset/bricking issue is when you hold the reset button for more than 3 seconds that does it.

I see ok thanks for the tip,

Yes absolutely, easy steps, wired first, all updates, full functionality, test it...

Then from inside ifi.local enable the wifi under Network in settings. Again once all updates are done, power off the unit, At this point do whichever you choose wired/wifi and you should be good to go.

Seems to have been the best way to start.

Ok, so I sent a ticket into iFi and they gave me instructions on how to un-brick the unit and it worked! I had to download a couple things and re-flash the firmware via the USB-C port. Now I'm back to the setup. I did everything via ethernet and now I'm trying to stream via wifi and having issues again! argh. Don't I have to connect to the unit with a device via wifi and then connect the ZS to my wifi network? When I select my network and enter the password it goes into a spin mode and says "http://ifi.local/" and doesn't do anything! What am I doing wrong here!?
