I know that I used to have some USB to AES or XLR cables in my old studio setup, really had to use for them with the equipment at the time, and do not know if they will work for specifically what your looking for, but I do remember they were not terribly expensive. 30-75 bucks, check sweetwater.

I have not used this with the ZS, i'm just pointing it out for consideration in your needs.

I'll be getting my ZS next week. It will be connected with wired ethernet and feeding my Qutest, replacing an aged mac mini. I'll be using the ZS exclusively for Roon.

I'm a bit unclear on firmware updates. Does the ZS need to be in AIO mode for checking/updating firmware? Once it is plugged into my network, can I simply open a browser on my computer to "ifi.local" to do the setup? Do I even need to activate WiFi if I won't be using it?

Unless you are running network sharing / NAT on your Mac mini eth0 port, I’d suggest connecting ZS to Wifi to do over the air firmware upgrades in AIO mode then toggle off Wi-Fi and move into Roon exclusive mode for regular use.

As I read some people have had issues with disconnections I have just made some interesting experience.
I've been playing flawlessly some months ago and one day started having issues with frequent disconnections in ALL source szenarios such as NAA, UPNP, DLNA and Roon.
I put the Zen Stream to the box and used different solutions then.
This night I tried again and run again into the same issues.
I then made an interesting observation:
The hot spot lamp was frequently blinking though I am running on Ethernet and turned wifi off.
Eventually the lamp then stopped blinking but at the moment of disconnections the lamp was blinking at that very moment.
What did I do?
I hard removed IP settings for wifi (once again turned wifi off and hot spot mode anyway) plus I hard configured IP adress settings for the local Ethernet - so no auto IP adress assignment.
Since then no disconnections the whole last 4 hours no matter if playing Tidal Connect, Mconnect Tidal, Qobuz, HQPlayer NAA or Roon.

I agree. If using Ethernet, hardcode ip, subnet mask, and default gateway on the ZS and hardcode ip and subnet mask on the PC/Mac side of the LAN connection. Never had an issue after doing that.

Depends on your local music collection as these are the only supported streaming services in Roon.

Is there a way I can convert one of the outputs of the Zen stream to and AES input by making or buying a cable?

I use the Mutec MC 6 for this and am very satisfied......

My ZS should be arriving tomorrow. It'll be driving my Qutest. I can connect the two via USB or coax. Has anyone found a difference between them?

Found the Coax little bit more musical than the usb (which still provides great detailsl). Driving the Hugo2 (red filter) which is connected to the iFi ican pro (tube mode). My HP is the Focal Stellia.
Source is iFi zen stream fed by Roon (upsampled to Max PCM) Tidal hifi plus.
