iFi audio ZEN DAC - EISA Award Winner 'Best Value DAC 2020-21!

For the ZEN DAC do you advise me to install the 5.3C or stay at 5.30? That changes? Thank you

My suggestion would be to determine functionalities you might use and base your firmware selection on it. I personally like our GTO firmware a lot, but that's only me.

I have the original firmware on it as it's a nice warm sound. I don't care about MQA and never will most likely since it's not really part of the music I listen to. The fun part is you can play around installing them at your leisure seeing what you like best.

Si prega di vedere qui: https://ifi-audio.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/08/iFi-audio-Tech-Note-GTO-filter-FINAL.pdf

Insomma, è un filtro digitale molto interessante applicato a tutta la musica PCM.

But if I update to 5.3c I'll lose the MQA magenta color function? Thanks

Please see here under the 5.3c tab: https://ifi-audio.com/firmware/unified-firmware-for-various-products/

FW 5.3c has MQA, GTO filter and DSD up to 256. DSD512 is the only thing missing.

So, I always listen with MQA format in Tidal streaming. Do you recommend the update? DSD512 miss in 5.30 firmware too...

There's no harm in trying 5.3c out. Worst case scenario, you'll be able to get back to the previous FW.

I have updated to 5.3c FW and everything it's ok, so it turns to magenta on MQA. One and only doubt... why it shows me only yellow light in other music format, even if DSD? It seems to have lost the green and the other lights, everything but yellow and magenta. Thanks

Hello everyone.
Have a question about the zen dac, not sure if I posted it here too.
I am currently looking at the Zen Dac to be used as a desktop amp/dac to be used with monitors and headphones.
Will be looking into something like the Sundara, and I hear the zen can power them.
My only issue would be that this review: https://iiwireviews.com/ifi-zen-dac-review-sit-back-and-enjoy
said the rca out of the zen dac is not very good and I all other reviews just look at the headphone outs.
Can someone let me know how it does on rca out ? Maybe the firmware changes since then have improved that.

I am an idiot...I read the 2 lines in reverse. He only complained about the headphone out having very limited power.
And that would be the question. Does the zen dac have enough for something like the Sundara or not (single ended, I am not looking to cough up another 100+$ on the balanced cable) ?

Mmm I don't think so... for Sundara (magneto planar) and Sennheiser and other headphones with high impedance you need the ZEN CAN... better in balanced mode. If you have DAC and CAN you use them in the best way in balanced and not single ended
