I'm using it v.3.2 with 5.30 firmware . Default settings
Are you using the a player with ASIO support and using the actual ASIO device then?

The standard sound channel / sample rate settings in the standard Windows Sound Control Panel are not for the ASIO device.

Ok. I got it. I see 352kHz and even more playing dsd in Control Panel but the first track from here plays with glitches 24BIT/352.8kHz, the same thing is about dsd256. dsd128 plays perfectly

I picked up the Zen DAC this weekend to try to use in the summer months when my desktop system is too hot to use. My first impressions:

  • Seems a tad bright compared to any other system I remember using. Maybe a focus on lower treble. Bass seems punchy.
  • On some headphones, the bass boost button is nice (more on this later). Works well with Hifiman Arya.
  • Gets my headphones and iems plenty loud. That said, I find it doesnt sound super great with Arya. Makes them a tad bright and brings out a harsh upper mid-range that I have also found using these and other hifiman planars on lower powered amps.
  • There is white noise when using with sensitive IEMs. Its much more noticable on 4.4mm than on 6.35mm. I heard audible white noise on my Viento IEMs. Not a huge deal as it's not audible during music playback.
  • Powermatch (gain) seems to add a little more noise too. More so than other amp gain stages.
Overall, seems like a stellar value at $129 for a small dac/amp combo with 4.4mm (I love this connector...)

I wish it had more I/O but for the price and coming from a well-established company, it's a pretty good value.

Here's what the True Bass switch does. I measured an Etymotic ER3XR before and after turning it on and subtracted the difference to make this plot. It's measured on a RA0045 clone (IEC-60318-4) coupler.

Is it possibile use the Fiio BL44 balanced adapter (male 4.4, female 2.5) in the balanced input of IFI ZEN DAC?

As long as wiring is the same, this will work.

Thanks a lot for your short and sweet feedback. That brightness might come off once the product has some working hours on it though :)

And yes, 4.4mm out is more powerful that 6.3mm, so it's natural you'll hear more noise with sensitive IEMs.

As for PowerMatch: https://media.ifi-audio.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/ZEN-DAC-Ver1.2.pdf

In case of IEMs it should be low, whereas regular cans will enjoy its high setting.

Yes, but wired too. 100ohm

Our ZEN CAN SIgnature 6XX will work nicely with your Momentum cans then, but it remains to be seen whether its EQ button will make them better. Worst case scenario, you'd get a very nice desktop headphone amp with one extra button you won't use with your cans :L3000:

Sorry if this is a basic question but I’m new to this firmware thing.

I want to try the firmware with the GPO filter.

If I change the original firmware, can I revert it back to the one that came from the factory?

if so, how? What’s the original factory version (there’s any place where I can check the firmware my Zen came with?) and where can I download the original firmware to revert everything to the original?
