I had bought xDSD for about a year and I am still enjoying it.
If someone asks me what more I want, I honestly tell him or her that I want IFI audio create a DAP with 4.4mm balance output.
Hoping IFI audio is developing something new and interesting!

No DAP from iFI. This company builds amazing DACs and BT and accessories. I dont think you will see a DAP because that means the operating system would have to be Linux. Too many Apple lovers really love iFI. Plus it would cost them too much with not enough room for markup. Also introduces way too many potential problems and iFI does not like problems $$$ !

We always look into many things. Always. On purpose we don't say yes or no to a specific product type.

You guys don't need a DAP to compete in the market I don't think. I love the xDSD and I think the future of portable audio isn't in DAPs, just keep building the stuff to the same standards as the xDSD and you'll keep getting my business.

But.... please make the next one less easy to get fingerprints on :)

Yes, DAP is not the future.

You can't stream anything on the DAP outdoor (no Tidal, no Spotify, no Apple Music, no YouTube), and this is why I am not buying into the DAP thing.

xDSD is great precisely because it works with other streaming devices.

Yes! You said it all!
I too believe DAPs are a very niche product unfortunately losing ground in the electronics market. If you have a smartphone, be it Android or iOS, Windows or Ubumto, why would you carry an additional device that needs to be totally configured, up kept and constantly maintained? (Don't hate, purists.) Just a real pain in the *%@ when I am On The Go.

At home you can do whatever you want from any source you have available. At Home, I‘m sure I own a minimum of 20 DACS/AMPS/PLAYERS that do just that. Most to all of my devices can stream or playback High Res audio AND video. I mean, I am “all in” (poker reference) when it all comes down to it. I have the time to pick what I want, pick my DAC and AMP, my cables AND source material tuned to my liking. Hope I dont sound selfish, but its only me wearing these headphones right now!

I have come to realize I tell it like it is. gain that can be dangerous because it is so subjective. So please don't be offended! This is not a personal assault on anyone. Just my rambling personal thoughts, putting pen to paper.

On The Go, I prefer to keep it as simple as possible. Less “stuff“ to lug around means the obvious but true less chance of theft or loss. But it has to meet my standards. The battery powered DACs and AMPs are great for that. Just remember to bring all necessary cables, connectors and adapters. Having some battery back up is probably a good idea too (to keep the party going).

My Samsung Note 9 and iPad Gen 6, Sennheiser 58X Jubilee and Sony MDR1/AM2 along with my iFI Audio xDSD and Fiio K3 is all I really need! And yes of course, a continuous power supply if possible.

Finally, again, I realize that all this I’m putting out there is simply opinion based subjective comment. Not intentionally looking to upset anyone, these are just my thoughts and hopefully some of you will agree with me, some will surely not. Thats perfectly fine. Keeping these forums and threads honest and real is what matters most. No finger pointing. With all love and no hate any comments are welcome! Being open minded and always willing to learn.
Thanks for sharing some time with me by reading this post!

Yes, DAP is not the future.

For certain type of customers, audiophile DAPs are as valid as our portable DAC/amp combos and we get that. The more choices there are, the better for you folks into this hobby. Sound quality of portable products regardless of their type went substantially up in recent years, so it all comes down to what one wants to carry around on the go.

As a company, we always look into things and pursue many projects at the same time. Some flourish into products and some we drop to focus on something else. But we're far from saying that in 100% we won't do this or that item type. We might at some point, who knows.

I'm thinking of buying a Shure SE535 - it comes with a BT and a 3.5 minijack for microphone, like the S-balanced TRRS (but of course works different).

Will it still work for unbalanced sound, or is this looking for trouble, and do I need a converter for trad single ended minijack? (or balanced MMCX/TRRS cable...)

So it's a TRRS with a mic pin in it, right? If so, it should work with regular headphone outs, our S-Balanced included.

When playing MQA through Macbook or iPhone and with Tidal or via Roon, both doing the first unfold and xDSD the last rendering, there are a lot of pops between songs and when skipping - pretty annoying. Anyone else experiencing this?

Maybe something to fix in next firmware. I have not this problem with other formats.
