iFi audio uno - Work, Chill, Play!
Jun 4, 2023 at 5:48 PM Post #76 of 103
Quick edit: so I decided to hook this up to my phone and go to a room with really no electronic equipment (aka bathroom haha) and I got no noise feedback at all. Listened connected to my phone and my Tinhifi T3+.

Your gaming PC may have a noisy USB out and that may cause issues. On the upside, if you invest into a solution that cuts that noise, it will work for all your DACs, not just UNO :)

I see what you did there 😉. It's a good suggestion though so I'll look into it..if anything, for the purpose of science.

Being a budget option I wouldn't expect to need a separate piece of equipment to control noise.
Lol I totally get it, it's disappointing that you need of buy more gear just to get your current gear to sound optimal. Especially the point of budget gear is to spend less money.

I had my fair share of $800 dac somehow perform poorly from USB then I had to buy a DDC then use coax/optical for the dac to sound good.

And I never have USB performance issues on my cheaper DACs but only on expensive DAC then I notice the USB performs poorly. The irony....
for the purpose of science.
That being said I am curious to try USB hub or iDefender+ for science LOL.

Just currently doesn't have too much expendable income, will revisit later.

Funny enough, just opposite here. I've had the Modius, zen air DAC, modi and now my ADI2DAC hooked to my PC with no noise problems. Electronics are a funny thing though and we all can experience things differently.

Not to derail the topic though...Uno sounds great! I just listened to my T3+ and I gotta say the music EQ adds that low extension boost...and it sounds wonderful!

Sitting in office now and listening: MacBook Air - Tidal HiFi - iFi UNO - Sennheiser HD560s.

No noise, pure joy (almost, after all I am in the office) :D

Hah, you got me!

On a more serious note, you can try any USB decrapifier, it doesn't have to be ours. It's more about seeing whether such products work for you or not and by that I mean a difference that is audible to you. Enjoy the adventure

I hope that the 2nd gen will come with bluetooth ans balanced output even if it's X2 in Price.
Hmmmmm I think this is to appeal to the beginners though, for those who think onboard sound is good enough. Now we're showing them by spending a little bit of money (less than $100) they could get better sound.

For what you ask for I think it's probably better to buy Qudelix 5K or BTR5.....etc maybe???

EDIT: Or you could spend a lot more a little bit more and get iFi Gryphon.

I just ordered one locally. I was going to get the Air DAC but it got sold out, so the guys at the store rec'd me this, and I fell for the tiny size, even better price than the Air and yet good specs. ESS not Burr, well both are good right. I plan on hooking it up to my desktop computer and feeding a couple of monitors. Today I'm using a little Fiio K1 to do that but well this one looked so good. Let's see what it does! Eager to get it.

I want a usb only dac/amp that will work with my Hifiman HE560 v1. The HE560 are 45ohm, 90db. Do you think the Uno will be good enough or do I need something else?
Thanks for the question!

According to our Headphone calculator, you should be just fine, take a look and input what your use case...

As in all these cases, I recommend buying from a reputable retailer with a "no questions" asked type of return policy just in case it's not for you!

Cheers!!

UNO is a cute little AMP/DAC, but no match for power hungry HiFiman planars.

iFi know this, hence the advice "I recommend buying from a reputable retailer with a "no questions" asked type of return policy just in case it's not for you!"

Well, I do not know this for sure as I have no such headphones in my collection.

And anyone is free to look back at many of my posts and see I give the same "Retailer Warning" In fact, I do it quite often, especially with Audio gear!

I see it as best practice anyway... :beerchug:

Cheers!!

The Uno drives my Hifiman HE400se very well. I understand that other Hifiman headphones are more demanding.
