iFi audio Pro iDSD Signature and Pro iCAN Signature - The Pro range just got better!

Hi everyone. I have the Pro iDSD Signature and the Pro iCAN Signature. They are connected using XLR. The iDSD is set on HiFi fixed. A few things I'd like to mention and ask the community or iFi itself. I get some wifi noise if the wifi antena is screwed in. When switching on DSD Remastering there is an increase in background noise. DSD512 is noisy but DSD1024 is horrible. The noise can be heard on the iCAN on high gain, from 11 o'clock on the pot all the way to max while using the front XLR headphone port. Furthermore, the iCAN is transmiting mechanical noise in the headphones when something is playing or not. When something is not playing the simple movement of the headphone cable generates some kind of resonance. The same goes if i touch the unit with my hands. Mind you, this happens no mater the mode I'm using (ss, tube, tube+) . Does anyone have these issues. And @iFi audio is this normal for a $5000 combo? I went to the dealer and tested it at their location and I could reproduce the issue. So its not my "dirty power" or some other excuse. This sounds to me like I need to request replacements for both units. Whats going on?

Have you tried different XLR cables between iDSD and iCAN? Next question what is your transport (is it PC or laptop via USB or what)?

Yes, I tried multiple XLR cables. My transport is an RPI4 with vitOS and Roon Bridge. I also connected a laptop directly. The noise has nothing to do with the source. I can unplug the usb from the iDSD and the same behavior can be reproduced.

Although there is some downtime when you engage different modes, you should be able to cycle between them without any issues. Going from Tube/Tube+ to solid-state shouldn't fail, so can you please let our support team know about this?

Thanks!

So I've submitted an issue with support and they promptly offered an exchange of my unit.

Since then I have asked if there was any upper limit for shipping reimbursement back to the netherland facility (this is going to be an heavy and expensive package) but it's been a week without reply. I'll try contacting the reseller (son-video) as well see if they can handle the replacement.

If you can help my ticket number is #18643

Thanks.

I'm sorry to hear about your issues and let me encourage you to contact our support team here: https://support.ifi-audio.com

In the meantime can you please use your Pro products separately if possible? This could help in narrowing down which one causes issues.

Sure, I'll ask and the person who is assigned to your ticket should update it shortly, thanks!

The physical resonance I imagine is just a byproduct of the unit body material-probably why they offer that $269 Pro iRACk to dampen micro vibrations. Can't confirm if it helps nor do I plan on trying lol.

Is the background noise you are hearing an incessant clicking noise? If so, I had this issue and iFi eventually replaced my iDSD Pro Signature. The clicking occurred regardless of transducer, cable, power supply, source type or connection.

Just recently purchased the Burson 3XP GT and I'm still within my return window. I'm really considering exchanging for this unit. The Burson does not play well with iems. Noise at low gain and 0 on volume. Any thoughts, suggestions? I'm also looking at he OOR/Hypsos stack, but I would prefer to save a little than spend more. It's not alot of reviews out on either product, and right now I don't feel like the money is well spent with the GT.

I got a new unit of iCAN this morning from the dealer and the resonances are completely gone. The noise coming from the iDSD has been reduced by half. In 2 weeks I will receive an iDSD unit (its been order, waiting shipment). So, I don't think the resonances are a normal thing. And I do have them on a rack, just not IFi's iRack. I will update you guys when I receive the new iDSD unit.

I will open a ticket, but first let me receive the new iDSD unit in 2 weeks time. If that unit has the same problem I’ll contact support.
