iFi audio Pro iDSD Signature and Pro iCAN Signature - The Pro range just got better!
Sep 25, 2021 at 4:19 PM Post #31 of 852
As I've said in another topic I can understand some like the new goldish design, but for me (and I guess for a lot people who value Europe design and simplicity) both Signatures looks simply ugly.

Each to his/hers own, as they say

Anyway, good job, @iFi audio! I hope to audition these units soon! :)

Thank you!

Would the appropriate power elite for the pro iCan be 15v? Or could I also go for 24v? Thanks

Our manual lists 15V/4A :)

iFi Pro IDSD Signature option in black please

Black is a color reserved for our Black Label products only :)

iFi began with products which had a clear brand identity. Similar looking silver boxes, in 'micro' and 'nano' sizes.

Then we got 'Black Label' editions, slightly annoying to have a different colour if you want to build a system of these things, but at least there was a rationality to it.

Now it's as if there is no rhyme or reason to the appearance of their products at all. The colour could be black, silver, blue, red, or even teal. New shapes pop up for no obvious reason. Some lines like the xDSD/xCAN have a forward looking esthetic, but the 'Pro' line is retro.

Are they actually paying somebody to 'design' this stuff. Sack him.

I hear you, but from our pespective this looks a bit different. iFi audio as a brand is now far more FAR MORE recognizable than it was say five years ago (let alone our early days), and along with that increasing recognition we also grow as a company and expand our lineup. A diversified offer surely helps in reaching more people, and our own factory allows us to work on multiple projects at the same time.

I understand that you don't find our current offer as visually coherent as it was years ago (nano and micro times = good times!), but that's not really possible considering how much stuff we have there now, and how much more is coming

I don't like the gold either but just ordered one...iFi give me a cosmetic upgrade kit to change the color to silver or black.

I wish we could!

Other brands manage to offer a range of product lines in different sizes and prices, yet still retain an overall aesthetic theme.

It doesn't really matter with stand alone items like the Hip DAC, but some products, like your USB hubs, are bound to be used with others. If someone wanted to add a phono stage to iFi's Pro stack, neither of your offerings would look right.

Should we expect a iFi Can Pro Black Label Edition / iFi Can Pro 2 or any successor - similar flagship within the next 1-2 years?
I’d hate to purchase this only to find out a similar/better product released soon after, considering the OG and signature was released with a 5+ year gap.

Hi @iFi audio

1. What are the headphone output impedances? All your other headamp products have this number but missing from Pro iDSD Sig?

2. What are the THD+N figures? All your other DAC headamp products have this number but missing from Pro iDSD Sig?

3. Why does the ethernet input only support PCM192kHz and no Roon Ready, Tidal Connect, NAA input? Shouldn't the flagship support (at a minimum) what Zen Stream supports?

Hey I am so over this since and the stuff..this and other gear are so good there is no need to waste my time on obsessing on these often meaningless measurements..and I am an electrical engineer.

The basic stuff that's important to me that iFi brings to the table is adequate power to drive my headphones, connectivity, functionality, quality of build, warranty, etc.

Having the pro dsd i am very happy with the dac and quality, enough to spend the bucks on the new amp. If this new amp hadn't come out I am sure I would have bought and been very content with the prior version.

The gold thing is a minor thing..its about the music...

Did you add Roon support this time?

I personally think Naim Uniti Atom Headphone Edition looking pretty good compared to iDSD Signature. It has all the features a full size remote and on top of that its in black.

We don't specify our plans for the future, sorry!

Did you add Roon support this time?

It's possible via iFi Bridge, just as it was the case with the first Pro iDSD.

Sorry, but I don't see any 15V/4A on offer there are only 15V/3.5A available.

This one will also do :)

Thanks! :beerchug:

1. What are the headphone output impedances? All your other headamp products have this number but missing from Pro iDSD Sig?

Here you go:

Single-Ended (S-BAL): < 1Ω
Balanced: < 2Ω

2. What are the THD+N figures? All your other DAC headamp products have this number but missing from Pro iDSD Sig?

All specs of the product you can find here: https://ifi-audio.com/products/pro-idsd-signature-2/

Shouldn't the flagship support (at a minimum) what Zen Stream supports?

Pro iDSD came out several before ZEN Stream. Our Pro iDSD Signature shares its core circuits with the former, so can't be any different as far as its utilities go

With the iFi iCan pro you can be sure that you will have an amp that will drive almost any headphone. Regardless of cosmetics. Fully balanced and a high watt se amp as well. With some extra stuff that may or may not be added value to you or not.

The cost of the pro stuff is indeed high, but its really good stuff. It should last you a long time.

I'll be alright with the original iFi stack, I don't need the extra bells and whistles. I'm using a cheap $25 mini DAC as a passthrough with coaxial output to my iFi Pro for PS5 use.

I also think that the new Signature models should be all GOLD instead of plain old silver.

I like the way it looks and it will fit nicely on my desk or in my silver stack of PS Audio components. But at the end of the day it's all about how it sounds with my headphones. I can't judge that 'cause it's backordered or not in stock at the usual online sellers. But it looks like iFi has made a very good headphone amp (don't need the DAC) and I'll most likely buy it when it's available.

It's possible via iFi Bridge, just as it was the case with the first Pro iDSD.
Having to run a separate proxy to be able to use Roon is a workaround and not a solution

My comment that you Pro iDSD Sig is missing what your other products show (THD+N etc) is based on having looked at that link.

Seems quite inconsistent, especially for the flagship. Unless it measures worse than all your other gear !?

Pro iDSD came out several before ZEN Stream. Our Pro iDSD Signature shares its core circuits with the former, so can't be any different as far as its utilities go

What a wasted opportunity to really bring the Pro iDSD Sig into 2021 and beyond, by incorporating the Zen Stream tech inside.

Especially for the price and flagship status.

Of course it can be different - it's a new model ... 'Signature'.

Anyway thanks for the transparency and replying with the info.
