So iFi was kind enough to send me a Pro iDSD for a little while for review purposes. I’m not going to go into all the features as that would result in a 50 page thesis, so if you have any questions please just ask, and I will answer them to the best of my ability. The full review will dive deep into the workings of the unit.
I asked myself originally, why does this device exist, as they have the Pro iCAN, they just needed to concentrate on a solid TOTL dedicated DAC. Having used it for a couple days, I sort of get it now. However, there are a few caveats
-2.5mm Balanced out is dumb for this purpose. It should be 4.4mm. Supposedly this is in the works and will be available on future Pro iDSD’s.
-the 1,500mw power being available through the SE output is dumb, the full 4000mw that is available through the 2.5mm balanced jack should be available. If it can be done on the Micro iDSD, it should exist here.
-Thats it really.
Especially once versions are available with 4.4mm pentaconn, I can see this being the one device many could need. There isn’t really much need for anything else. IF you have hard to drive headphones sure, add a suitable amp (like the Pro iCAN) but apart from that, this pretty much does it all.
It sounds great, has all the features you could ever want, tubes, tube+, SS, headphone out, can be used as a standalone DAC in a system. It really is a very well thought through piece of gear, with the above caveats.

Now to ask frankly: Why is it so difficult, ifi, to fulfill your promise you gave about one year and a half ago: to offer two different front panels: one (default) with the 2,5mm balanced and another (new) with the many time asked for 4,4mm balanced headphone socket?
In the meanwhile it is indeed becoming real what I once quoted when reading your "We 're on it" every now and then: "Same procedure as last year?" (running gag in "Dinner for One", iconic short film at every New Year's Eve in Germany)
So I am waiting for the new panel and waiting and waiting and...
And you other guys having once been interested in the altered socket - did you resign after so many months of waiting? Did you desert to another brand? Of headphones? Of DAC?
And ifi: Too many parallel projects on progress for too few staff members?
After all the diplomatic answers of ifi have allways been well balanced and well tempered and well smoothed...

Hi iFi
Does the 3.5mm SE socket have some sort of IEmatch feature? I'm getting a lot of hiss with my iEMs on any gain setting, both on the 6.3mm output and the 3.5mm output . The noise gets worse if I increase the gain level.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Its ok, I figured it out. I had to turn of DSD remastering competely, and it went away. Completely silent now!

doesn't have 3D and Xbass and the dynamics of iCan Pro -- all very essential

Pro iDSD is not a Pro iCAN and doesn't aspire to be one. It's a DAC in the first place, with a rather nice headphone out.

For this special album, recorded live in concert in Stereo and Multichannel DSD 256, the Yuko Mabuchi Trio - Yuko Mabuchi (piano), Del Atkins (bass) and Bobby Breton (drums) - is joined by trumpeter JJ Kirkpatrick from the Sophisticated Lady Jazz Quartet. Included in the collection are performances by Les Chats Noirs, Yuko Mabuchi Trio with JJ Kirkpatrick, Rachel Podger with Brecon Baroque, Ricardo Gallen, and the Feenbrothers. The music covers a variety of styles and genres including French Vocal and Chanson, Jazz Quartets, Classical Ensemble, and Guitar.
These higher bit rate DSD 512 tracks are all pure DSD created. They are not up samplings, for there are no PCM or DXD conversions involved in their production. They are re-modulations of the original DSD 256 encoding modulation that produced the DSD 256 releases. The sonic advantage to these new Stereo DSD 512 releases, as with all higher DSD bit rate releases, is the wider frequency passband prior to the onset of modulation noise. This results in the listener’s DAC using gentler and more phase linear filters for playback of the music.
The resulting DSD 512 music files were monitored with a DSD 512 Stereo system that included HiFiMan HE-1000 Stereo Headphones with Lazuli HF Headphone Cables by Dana Cable and the iFi Audio iDSD Micro Black Label Headphone Amp and DAC (available for purchase at the NativeDSD Gear Store).

Hello my IDSD Pro via Foobar cannot process DSD 512
DSD 64 128 and 256 are just working fine
I have the following error message :
Unrecoverable playback error: Sample rate of 1411200 Hz not supported by this device
Any idea ?
I am shooting Direct DSD using SACD plug-in 1.1.2 no DoP
Output DSD:ASIO. iFi HD USB Audio
