Agreed. Originally, I also planned to get one ifi Pro iDSD. However, the answer from ifi is disappointing.
what's so good about Roon though?

Give the free 2 week trial, a trial.
Much easier to experience, than explain.
And it's free to try!
If you need more than 2 weeks, if you ask them, they are pretty generous with extending the free trial for another week or two...
Then I realized that these features were never ever advertised or promised.

Most of what we promised and advertised, we delivered and there's still stuff to do. But we never promised Roon knowing what it needs. We don't say 'aye' or 'nay' to it and that's the most honest answer we have at this point.
Bottom line is this: we're still exploring what we can do with Pro iDSD. If we can do anything about Roon (knowing how much folks also beyond this community want it), at some point we might.
I believe you guys in ifi work very hard to enhance the feature of the product.
But a clear road map (transparency) of the coming features/enhancement can help consumer to understand the product and confident when making a choice.

Hello,
Roon works with Pro iDSD's ethernet port the way as described in this JPlay thread: http://jplay.eu/forum/index.php?/topic/2783-roon-with-jplayfemto-it-is-possible/
All you need is the upnp-bridge. A microRendu or ultraRendu with Sonore's UPnP app will do it, too. And you must activate the squeezebox support in Roon.
Even DSD64 (DoP) and MQA does work. I didn't have any issues so far.
Kudos to DC!
Cheers

No USB involved. With the Sonore UPnP app you can use any UPnP renderer as endpoint for Roon. It's part of the SonicOrbiter OS since version 2.7 (or already 2.6 not sure). I already had posted about this on the ifi Pro iDSD thread on computeraudiophile when I had a microRendu.Yes but you will be feeding Pro iDSD from the Rendu with USB. I just sold my ultraRendu. I feel Pro idsd sounds better with direct Ethernet compared to ultraRendu in the middle.

I have sold my microRendu, too. Now I use the UPnP-bridge started by Fidelizer as described in that thread.
The streaming way looks like this: Roon --> Squeezebox streaming --> UPnP-bridge --> UPnP renderer (ethernet port of ifi Pro iDSD). I use wlan and playback is stable. The ifi DAC must have a quite big buffer.
