iFi audio NEO Stream - Sweet Streams!

Here is a screenshot of the Qobuz import feature

I do not mean the purchases.
I had the import feature on the Fiio M17 because there was a native Qobuz integration into Fiio.
I needed to change the storage setting on the Qobuz app. Settings>Storage>Change Storage Setting> click 2nd option.

Does NEO Stream work over WiFi? I want to use Roon and NEO Stream.
Yes, it does!

Wifi needs to be set up from within the app. (Actually Wifi can also be accomplished from the front panel on the NEO as well)

Cheers!!

I just bought a neo stream and am about to start using. However, it makes me a little nervous that others have commented that the version of Linux used is old and outdated, and will limit potential updates in the future, especially regarding HQ Player NAA. Would anyone from ifi care to comment on this?

I have the offline music from qobuz on my smartphone but I do not think the Qobuz app will stream the music bit perfect on the ifi neo stream while connected through an usb cable (between the smartphone and the neo stream). I tried this connection on the rme adi-2 pro and the adi-2 shows 192 kHz (although the offline Qobuz music is only stored as 16 bit 44 kHz resolution)

Can you point us to the particular comment that you are referring to regarding Linux?

This is out of my wheelhouse, but if you are looking for direct contact from ifi regarding this here it's a good idea (for future reference) to tag them if you can, like this..
@iFi audio

I'm sure if anyone else can answer you as well they will...

Cheers!!

I also note that the ifi neo stream app does not recognize sacd iso files. I asked iFi if they could implement this feature 2 years ago. But I see they have not added this feature yet.

I have commented about this in the past. According to iFi, the zen streaming software is based on Volumio (version 2). This in turn is based on Debian Jessie (a variety of Linux), which officially lost support in 2020. I don't mind that the operating system software for the Zen hardware is outdated, and acknowledge that iFi has made substantial improvements in terms of audio. However, since they have stated that they aren't ready to support Volumio 3 (based on Debian Buster), I would appreciate hearing that they are aware of and actively addressing any known security issues associated with their software. (This is something audio companies in this market rarely do.) I don't know the outlook for future support for other decives in the audio chain, but in principle, iFi could provide patches for changes in things like NAA service from HQPlayer...
(See the links below for info about Debian Jessie.)

https://www.dogsbody.com/blog/debian-8-jessie-eol-30th-june-2020/The comment I made comes from the Roon forum. In the forum one of the users said:
"I hope iFi would update the NAA to the latest version at some point. I hope it could fix the problem when ZS loses the DAC USB-input if DAC is switched on/off or inputs changed." To which one user replied:
"This is not possible because it would be necessary to upgrade the OS to a Debian version more recent than the very old Jessie (and the kernel, the libraries, etc)."
I would like to be able to upgrade to future versions of NAA, and would not be happy if I am not able to do so because of limitations in the linux kernel used.
Is this true? A correction -- Now, when I looked back at the Roon site, I see they were talking about Zen Stream. Are platforms different for the Neo Stream?

Thanks for the reply, and the links, admittedly I do not understand most of these things and I like to try and learn about them. I will read up on the security aspect if possible, but even there my first thought would not be focused on that, in my limited knowledge of the subject I would view something like these as a sort of closed system, but I supposed everything is exploitable these days in one way or another.

Thanks for the reply!

Cheers!!

Do you know if it difficult for iFi to provide sacd iso support in Volumio?

The subject has been raised many times on the ZenStream thread, which has still not evolved, although it could (no denial from iFi audio) benefit from the same software core as the Neo and thus stream DSD512.
The development investment seems to be limited to the corrections necessary for the release of the products. Once the bugs are fixed... no more evolution.
I don't have a Neo and therefore can't explore the software info (kernel, software version). But indeed, on the ZenStream we have a "picture" of the environments limited to Debian Jessie.
I have pushed it to the maximum (see my signature) in a HQP/naa usage. Then, I don't have the skills of a development engineer.
It seems, reading the libreelec.tv forum (streamer media) that with the same hardware, you can go a bit further. Holo Red is twice as expensive... but totally open.
Personally, I remain for the moment with the ZS... I think of more accomplished solutions like dac with integrated streamer.

I am hopeful, now that I am a new owner, that support will be top-notch and incorporate improvements to the device, rather than just moving on to the next device. Time will tell.
I hope so for you, I was initially interested in the Neo then remembered the very bad experience with hip dac battery and gave up

I just got my neo stream and had a question. How do you get the album cover to display. Right now I am using Neo Stream as NAA for HQ Player and am using Roon for control. I am using the internal USB. The screen shows the sampling rate and network connection, but no album cover. Does the cover appear only when you stream?
