iFi audio NEO Stream - Sweet Streams!

Folks, a brief statement:

It has come to our attention that some of you have discovered and uploaded beta firmware for your iFi streamer. We do not recommend installing the beta firmware on your iFi streamer. This software is considered to be in a testing phase and may not be fully stable or reliable. It could cause issues with the functioning of your streamer and may also lead to loss of data or settings.

It is important to use only official and stable software releases for your iFi streamer, which can be found through the device system settings. If you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to our technical support team via https://support.ifi-audio.com/

Thank you for your understanding and support and we wish you the best with your iFi streamer.

As an NAA endpoint, this unit really performs flawlessly in NAA mode. I am on the beta .19 software, but even on the stable version, it worked flawlessly. When using it with Roon, I do get occasional dropouts, but I'm not sure if that's an issue on the Roon side or the Neo side. However, I'm happy using it just as an NAA device and I've never had a single hiccup streaming up to 768k to my Chord Mojo or CMA Fifteen over USB.

I've also built a little battery operated fanless PC running the standalone, lightweight NAA OS and paired it with an ifi iGalvanic USB solution, but the Neo still seems to sound a bit more transparent with a blacker background. I'm guessing that's due to the Neo's optical ethernet solution that I don't have with my PC.

I currently have the iFi Zen Stream feeding one of my DACs. I am pondering if the iFi Neo Stream makes sense for me as well, not least because it has full MQA unfolding for its in built DAC.

One question that I have been wondering about: how does the RCA output compare to the 4.4mm balanced output? Thank you! :)

If you intend to use NEO Stream as a streaming DAC, its 4.4mm output is the one to use if you have a balanced amp that can work with it, thanks!

Has anyone tried the Neo Stream with a denafrips DAC over i2s yet?

Been able to get DSD and correct left and right channels?

So far I can get DSD playback with the 011 or 111 setting, but it still switches left and right channels. This channel switch is for non-DSD playback.

I don't know if this link can help you out at all, but I remembered it when I was previously reading about the new Denafrips, and figured I would post itt here for you.

Thanks! I ordered your 4.4mm to dual XLR cable from Stereo Singapore yesterday. It should be delivered in the next couple of days. :)

Big shout out to @Mr BubbaHyde for his patient advice. I picked up the NEO Stream to keep the Zen Stream (which is still being used for my DACs) company.

@iFi audio The interconnect came today. I am enjoying now that I have plugged it in. Kudos to the team. Excellent cable. There is more impact and much more detailed. :)

I installed the HQPlayer trial on my macbook air because I saw @ra990 say it works perfectly with NAA.

It seems to work fine with no drops during the 30 minute trial.
If it takes a while for iFi Audio to fix the dropping in Roon, I may buy a license for HQPlayer, but I doubt it will be ok.
