The internal DAC. I noticed that it sounds great after about twenty minutes, then sounds awful after about an hour; harsh and flat. I'm using it with the Zen can 6xx (balanced out from the NS)
That’s very odd. Are you using the 4.4mm to 4.4mm balanced analog connection between the two? If not run over to Amazon and buy the cable—that’s definitely the only way to do it justice…

4.4mm Male to Male Balanced 5 Pole 8 Core Silver Plated Headphone Adapters Cable Aux Cable 4.4mm to 4.4mm Balanced Cable https://a.co/d/cOndfqm

Edit: I just caught that you’re using a balanced connection. I assume that’s via the pentaconn connection? I can’t explain why you’d have any degradation of sound after 20 minutes. Is anything getting excessively warm? Are all your cables sound? It really isn’t a burn-in issue, and it’s hard to say anything useful based on the way you’re describing the audio changes…

I remeber having an issue with the power supply fort my Zen Can (standard version) not long after I bought it, it almost seemed like fuzzy sound if remeber it correctly.

You may want to try a different power supply on the Zen Can just to rule out that is not the issue. Just be sure to check the specs for your particular model.

Cheers!!

I need another cable like that but I need a bit more length, are you using that one with no issues?

I ask because I know iFi 4.4 ports seem to give me fits with everything but iFi branded cables, new fantasia even gave me fits!

Cheers!!

This sound like a good idea. Also wondering where you have the gain set on the Zen CAN. Also what headphones are you using? Have you tried the headphone calculator on iFi’s website?

IFI makes their own proprietary cable, also on Amazon—not sure it’s any longer though.

ifi Cable Series 4.4mm to 4.4mm Balanced Male to Male Connector https://a.co/d/315YqTW

I used both when I had the Zen Stack. With the NS I’m running it via USB into my Topping d90se and bypassing the internal DAC, and my analog patch cable to my amp is XLR.

Thanks for those! I'm using the 4.4 to XLR that came with the Diablo to go into my Geshelli Archel 2.5XL , no issues with that cable perfect fit! But as I said I have had issues with the New Fantasia just not sitting right.

I wish the sold the cable that comes with the Diablo, love it!

Thanks again!

Cheers!!

I will say that this is my favorite cable company on Earth—I use them for all my headphone cables. I’m not sure what to make of the one unfavorable review. My experience with them has been impeccable.

Thanks all for chiming in. I'm using the 4.4mm Pentacon input on the Zen can, the volume is sitting about halfway most of the time, the setting is 6db.
I'm using u12t IEMs

I suspect it might be an internet issue, as I have a habit of switching tracks very quickly in Audirvana, instead of letting them play through, greedy for the clarity the NS brings lol

According to the headphone calculator that combination of IEMs and amplifier is way overpowered. I’m not sure what the output impedance is on the NS’s DAC, but you really might consider getting the ieMatch+ if you’re staying with IEMs—especially if you’re running a balanced connection.

It literally works wonders on super sensitive headphones—I have it built in to the 4.4mm headphone output on my Pro iCAN Signature and since I switched to that from the unmatched XLR output I’ve never even considered going back.

It’ll give you a substantial increase in clean headroom and a much lower noise floor, with a considerable reduction in high gain distortion. It’s the most affordable upgrade you can buy for your circumstances.

Ah, sorry forgot to mention that I'm already using an IEM match

Ah. Maybe you should just ignore my attempts to rescue you here…

Hmm...unecesarily passive aggressive response, prompted by the New head Fier status ?
What? I think you misread my intent—I meant that you should probably ignore me because my suggestions were striking out. That is, a humiliated crawl away in defeat for assuming I could fix your problem when my solutions you had already figured out. Honestly, there are at least a few folks on here that aren’t on a snarky by default—I’m one of them! Sorry if I came off otherwise…

Yes, sorry a misunderstanding. It's just that audiophile forums are teeming with mean spirited people making vitriolic comments, as I've learned from lurking these sites for many years now.

Anyway, back to the NS, the presentation changes daily for the better, it just becomes unpleasant after 1 hour or so. I tend to beleive that burn in is real, based on my own experience rather than objective scientific facts or knowledge. Obviously a controversial subject, but I've experienced it too often just to dismiss it out of hand.
