iFi audio NEO Stream - Sweet Streams!

That bit about the start sound notification and hearing it repeatedly as the unit restarts again and again, well that is just like the reboot problem that has made me have to return my unit for a checkup. Now I have always left mine on wired and never went through the horrors of the WiFi setup you describe, but the unit just warbling away for no apparent reason again and again when just playing local files finally made me crack. So although the precise reason the unit enters this continual reboot may differ, it is like it is a way to purge itself of some incorrect state it has entered into ? I sent mine back to iFi Audio yesterday, no word from them as yet, will keep the thread updated.
That's too bad, I hope they sort it out quickly for you.

I always expected some teething issues being an early adopter, despite the fact that I had zero issues with the Zen Stream when others were having problems. So my posts aren't complaints, they are pointing out faults that hopefully will be addressed in firmware updates. I'd hate to get to a point of having to send it back.

Anyway, my unit is working fine as long as I don't touch it or breathe on it - LOL

If someone has a chance to test Tidal Connect with the NEO Stream and report back, I would appreciate it. I’m still getting reocurring disconnections. Right now I’m connecting through AirPlay in the Tidal app (also tried mconnect) and the initial result is that this improves stability, but too early to draw conclusions. I’m also skipping the OptiBox atm, not sure if that’s a variable to consider…

We have a new Firmware v2.15.16, this will help the Tidal issue you are experiencing, let us know how you get on :)

In AI0 mode, you should be able to see the Volumio interface generated by the Neo, go to main settings, then System, then you should see a section called System Updates half way down that page. Then press the Check Updates button and the Neo should then check to see if a newer version is available. If so then it offers you a button to do the update. It may take a few minutes and usually the unit will power down and than back up to complete the installation of the updated software. Oh incidentally if you cannot find this Check Updates button anywhere, you may need to put the Volumio into Full Settings mode rather than simplified, see a few lines up on the System page called Show Advanced Settings. If you change any option, remember to press Save button in that section to make the change happen. Hope this helps
This is correct, thank you for sharing

Thanks for your reply. I downloaded the new firmware the day it was released and have, undortunately, been experiencing issues after that too. So far i haven’t experienced disconnections when testing AirPlay. But for sound quality reasons, I of course want use the connect function.

So can 1s & 0s sound different? Against everything remotely logical in my being - my answer is yes, as I've heard the difference before in my setup. It still bewilders me though.

I've set up the Neo Stream and my over 10 year old Auralic Aries Femto together to do some A/Bing in my speaker setup. There won't be anything overly conclusive from this as they are set up quite differently, the Neo Stream powered by the Uptone JS-2 at 12V and using the ethernet/optical connection and the Aries powered by a Ferrum Hypsos at 15V and using wifi.

Why am I doing this? I'm bored - I'm in day 3 of contracting Covid and whilst I feel better than the first 2 days with the fever now gone, I'm still not good with a mega sore throat that is stopping me from eating, even a small swallow of water is excruciating.

Anyway, on to filling in my day in isolation

Edit: My Aries is 8 years old

Feel better Brother! I can't wait to try one! As a huge fan of the ZS "sound" 😂 this might be what I've been looking for 3 years now.

Although smaller, astetically back to square one where I started. I had a Cambridge CXN V2, I thought that was my endgame, but the 1's N' 0's did not please me enough!! 😂😂

Cheers!!

What’s the Intona for?
I had it there for a previous setup. I use the Spring 3 USB for headphone listening from the NAA, it's USB input is galvanically Isolated so not really needed anymore but I still have my USB connection going through it.

Call it either:
  1. A case of I might as well still use it rather than put it away
  2. Audio Nervosa
I still think it makes a difference into the Spring 3 but am willing to acknowledge that I'm hearing things

Adding to your nervosa: a LPS-1.2 UltraCap powering the Intona (via the Aux input) was a noticeable improvement for me with the Rockna Wavedream, which has a very good USB implementation.

I used to have an LPS-1.2......two in fact because the first one failed after 6 or 7 months then the replacement failed after about the same time.

You know I never even considered powering the Intona, I have a Teddy Pardo 5V LPS doing nothing so I'll give it a go.

I’ve had 3 of these fail. The last one was a couple weeks ago and UpTone no longer offers to fix them because of part shortage, which really sucks! These PSU sound really good in the right system, but they are clearly not reliable…

Folks, below are two vids that show how to set up NEO Stream over WiFi and Ethernet, enjoy :)
I have been trying on multiple occasions to connect to WiFi this way and no dice as per the screenshot below:

Edit: disregard - not thinking straight, all good.
