iFi audio iDSD Diablo - A portable reference done our way!

Thanks BS5711 for the help!

It seems that iFi's response suggests that "charging and using" the Diablo at the same time is proper, as iFi even suggests that the Diablo is designed to handle this kind of setup. On the other hand based on your experience it seems that charging with a Macbook Pro may not give enough power to Diablo and may trigger stoppage of the unit, am I right? So I guess that there are conditions within which such "charge and use" is ok (or intended), and beyond which problems may emerge. It would be good if iFi could more properly layout these conditions so that we as endusers could enjoy the purchase with a peace of mind!

Thanks again,
Best ..

I would expect in most circumstances powering the Diablo from a computer USB would be absolutely fine. The headphones that would put sufficient demand on the Diablo to cause a problem would be very much the exception rather than the rule.

Hi guys
My Diablo unit is "bricked" - the charging LED is not working - the LED is not working AT ALL - and the light does not show flashing red when charge is ongoing and no indication of whether the unit is getting charged or fully charged, because there are no lights, flashing or otherwise; also, the unit is NOT powering on. I left it on charge for about 5 hours, but the situation persists - no LED and unit is not powering on. I tried charging with the iPower charger that comes with and another normal smartphone charger - the unit is not responding at all. It gets warm/ hot when on charging mode but no LED lights at all. The unit is only a month old and purchased new from the authorized retailer in my country. I have used it with care - no rough/ outdoor use. Only indoor usage. Really frustrating.
PS - I have NOT attempted to update from the default firmware the Diablo comes with. So the issue is not related to firmware updation et cetera. It was working normally till a few days ago with the addition of the iPurifier3 in the chain with both units working as expected. Dunno what happened suddenly. Any suggestions??

Hi Guys,

So I pretty much have the same problem as this guy, My Diablo just doesn't turn on now, and isn't charging, or showing any indicator lights.

I tried it with default charger, and all chargers I had on hand, and it still isn't charging.

At first, it still was powering on when plugged in, but doesn't work with battery (turns on for a few seconds and dies), but now, it won't turn on even when I have it plagged it. It's heating up as well, without any indication of charging.

My diablo is out of warranty, anybody had the same problem, or have any idea with how to fix the issue?

Thanks and Regards,

Thanks and Regards,
Even though you may be "out of warranty" I would still reach out to Ifi Support, just to see if you could get any help, perhaps there is some info we don't have here that they may know about.

If you zoom in on the front panel you can make out that it no longer has an "Eco" mode only "Normal", "Turbo" and "xMems" at the top.

If "normal" is like the current Diablo's "normal" setting that is going to put a lot of people off that want it for IEM. There was enough moaning about excessive gain and poor channel imbalance as it was !

As for the new Diablo X, The modes included are Normal, Turbo, and XMems as you pointed out. For those interested in using it with very sensitive IEMs you will use it in Normal mode, and an iEmatch will be included in the box!

Hope this helps you out!!

Cheers!!

Makes sense but I suspect that will create controversy also, lots of people believe the IEMatch adversely impacts the sound.

Indeed but isn’t the XMems technology something new entirely and not equal to IEMatch?
Edit: nevermind, I ve just read IEMatch is included in the box, so no change there compared to old model

Yes obviously correct but most people are still going to use it with conventional IEM and headphones.

I personally am not a fan of the implementation of something very specific to work with a new niche product even if you can just ignore that if you don’t have the need.

I don’t think I will be in a big hurry to upgrade from my Diablo.

I know, am in the same boat and returned Diablo as it was just too much for my low impedance headphone.
Driving planars is a bliss though

I agree with everything said above!

The xMems is indeed very new So we will have to see what the response is to this new tech overall.

I have seen a few folks talk about the iEmatch affecting sound, although admittingly I have never experienced it, in fact I have used the iEmatch to listen to IEMs on my Darkvouce 336se, very interesting combo 😂!

Hopefully we will get some "hands on" impressions from CanJam this weekend, to better gauge where the new Diablo X falls into the order of things!

Cheers!!
