This is nonsense from the technical point of view. Whoever told you that should consult Qualcomm software engineers and not marketers. Adaptive has HD and LL modes, but they have nothing to do with aptX HD or LL.

The truth is that QCC51xx TWM devices do not support aptX HD. This should be theoretically possible, but apparently no one implemented it.

is this the chip in the Go Pods?

Yes, and the main reason why this chip doesn't have aptX HD is that Qualcomm didn't bother implementing it for earbuds.
If that is the case then it provides the answer to @PixelSquish, maybe not the desired answer, but the answer.

But, the iFi site clearly lists aptX HD support:

Hi-res Bluetooth

Qualcomm’s 24-bit aptX HD and aptX Adaptive formats are also covered, offering sample rates of up to 48kHz and 96kHz respectively, with the additional benefit of QHS (Qualcomm High Speed) providing an extra 300kbps of bandwidth. Other supported codecs include aptX Low Latency, regular aptX, AAC and SBC.

So basically you are saying iFi has no ****ing idea what they are doing in this regard and have completely falsely marketed compatibility with this long existing and well-known codec.

Let's see what happens.

Well, I will be the first to admit that Bluetooth is not my forte, however, I will find out what is happening with this and of course, I will get back to you as to what I am told.

I wish I had an answer for you right here right now, but I don't. I only know what I reported in the post about "choosing adaptive" and that was in response to your direct question about APTx HD being grayed out, and not selectable, in an effort to help your issue.

Hopefully, I can be back here tomorrow with some concrete answers to your questions, and I hope I haven't created more confusion.

Cheers!!

I get your frustration, but is there a different way to express it?

Not at all. It's the perfect way to phrase it. If that's what it turns out to be that's exactly it.

I love Aptx HD because it has better battery life than LDAC and to me sounds absolutely perfect. I mean first world problems to live with LDAC until a PTX adaptive codex get more available on phones, but still it's one of the specific reasons I bought these things

I cannot know what is the issue exactly but I am afraid you will have to return them and get a refund. The way I see it, AptX HD must be supported if the smartphone supports AptX Adaptive. If your phone, like my Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, does not have AptX Adaptive then neither AptX HD is supported. I cannot believe that iFi Audio have so grossly lied about the GO Pod Specs.

PS: I also have the Xiaomi POCO F2 Pro, my previous phone, which supports all these Codecs and I can use it as a "DAP".

You don't know what you are saying. AptX HD is a much older codec than the newer AptX adaptive codecs and is supported by plenty of devices that do not support AptX adaptive or have been around since before Aptx adaptive was even released.

Read about it. You are right, you can't know about the issue because you have no idea what it is so please, read about it.

iFi's own specs for the pods state it correactly, aptx and aptx HD are this and this, and then later is aptx adaptive and LL. They are clearly stated as different codec which they are in real life, it's just right now they definitely do not support aptx HD.

Also if you select classic AptX on the P7 pro, the next time the Pods start up, they switch back to LDAC. can this be fixed? My BTR7 does not switch the codec to what it wants everytime I turn it on. It stays with the one I chose.

All I am saying is that this should work out of the box.
Since it does not work it can mean 2 things:

1) iFi made a terrible mistake and they need to fix it, ASAP
2) It is not supported the way you mean it. Perhaps the phone must have AptX Adaptive for AptX HD to work with the GO Pod.

We will see...

Personally, I cannot believe that iFi has made such a terrible mistake.

it can't be number 2. I didn't mean anything, iFi advertised it as such. either they can fix it with a firmware update or they screwed up completely. it's one of those two options.

You may think that it is a perfect way to say it, but… if you are a professional, please show that to your boss or one of your colleagues. If you are a student, show that to a professor or teacher. They may have constructive feedback for you. I am neither of those, so I won’t press the matter more!

If you think this is a workplace or school environment, then I got some news for you.

Nah, I just think that we should behave in a way we would not otherwise be embarrassed of!
I like this product overall.

But I'm not afraid to call what you are saying essentially is a total clueless **** up from a high end audio company selling a top dollar product in it's category by having no idea what codec their product supports and falsely marketing it. That's a big ridiculous **** up if what you say is true.

Internet web forums are not a college classroom nor a workplace. No matter what you think. I'm not embarrassed at all. I didn't call for a holy war or a boycott or say anything crazy.

I'm calling an embarrassing ridiculous **** up exactly that, if what you are saying is true. And I've been in some great intelligent debates in college where you could also say that. Just have to know the moment.
