I don't think the case has to be metal to not feel cheap. It's a cheap feeling plastic case. I've held solid feeling and cheap feeling plastic cases before. This one is chintzy and feels a bit flimsy.
Hi,

Have you received the replacement of your GO pod? Does AptX HD work now for you?

What's the concensus on the durability of the case? Is it really flimsy enough that you wouldn't expect it to survive some tumbles here and there?

I've dropped my UTWS5 case and it looks practically the same besides some very minor scuffs. Everything still works perfectly and only on one occasion was it hard enough for an ear hook to actually come out of the case as well. It does a really good job of staying closed and protecting the earphones inside.

Hopefully the Go Pod's would at least provide similar durability considering the much higher cost...

I am happy with the case - it does what it needs to do, and it does it well.

However…

The build is not great. I don’t expect it to survive a drop of a couple of meters, for example. Solution? Treat your expensive stuff with care.

The size is large. Do not expect to carry it in your pocket. Easily will fit in a backpack or bag.

The shape / styling is very… distinctive. You will either like it, don’t care one way or the other, or hate the look of it.

Final words… if you are making a purchase decision based on the case, I think your priorities are probably off, but that is just me!

AptX HD does not work - in developer options it is grayed out, with or without music playing while connected to the Pods. on the p7pro, where I have used AptX HD, only classic AptX and LDAC show up as available HD audio.

The firmware, like my first pair, does say 1.39, but from December. I will try to upgrade the firmware later, I have to run back to work.

First of all, I am sorry!

Have you contacted iFi support about this matter, providing the exact model of your phone and asking them if AptX HD should work?
( I know that it should, just saying...)

Have you tried to reboot your phone and re-pair?

Finally, what is the latest firmware for this device? iFi should make the version publicly available, so that we will know which version is the latest.

I will look into this as well, and hopefully, I will get a timely response for you.

Samsung S22 if I'm wrong, correct me, please.

Cheers!!

All of our firmware can be found here...

I will also enquire what the current version is, I do not have GO PODS or I would check it myself, perhaps someone with the GAIA app can confirm it for you.

Cheers!!

I would agree. I wouldn’t say the case is flimsy. But the build quality of the case definitely isn’t top notch. Accidental drops on hard surface will damage it, but the Go Pod itself is secured nicely in the case. My negative is that the material used for the case and the build quality do not measure up to the asking price of $400.

Version 1.39 is the latest firmware available on iFi’s website.

The crappy GAIA app that users need to download to their mobile device does not send any notifications to alert you that new firmware is a available. Users needs to check the iFi website or the GAIA app on a regular basis to see if new firmware has been released.

Just checking… what phone are you using? Is it the S22? If that is the case, it seems that Samsung does not (yet) support aptx HD on the S22 (I might be wrong, but that’s what I found with a cursory search on the web).

BTW, I also have the S22 and I don’t see aptX HD at all in the codecs offering in Developer settings.

I'm on a Pixel 7 Pro. I've used AptX HD on this phone just fine. It's the Go PODS

I agree with your observations about the case material. Of course, everyone can and should hold whatever priorities and standards they see fit to. My perspective is that while certain decisions as to the case are unfortunate / suboptimal, this is an odd issue to be very important. Unless someone is clumsy :)

I use the Go Pod with a Sony DAP that runs Android and the default playback is LDAC. I can switch to Aptx HD by going into Setting>Connected Devices>Connection Preferences>Bluetooth>Wireless Playback Quality to change from LDAC to Aptx HD. Hopefully your phones use a similar path to change playback.
