I have fiio x5 first generation and usually im direct it with my earbuds which have 32ohm impendance, if i pair it with ifi earbuddy could i drive my 32ohm bud with my x5 1st? Normally my volume when using x5 with 32ohm bud is 65 with low gain, i want to asking this question before i buy it.
So the scema is x5 1st > earbuddy > earbud.

There's no reason why this wouldn't work. If you want to know for sure, our returns policy is generous. Feel free to contact your local iFi rep and try this product.

I've just got one of these for my PC - Audioquest Dragonfly Red - Shure SRH1540 set-up. I didn't get it to remove hiss...because there wasn't any. I got it because I had very little fine control over the volume in Windows...I was listening at really low settings...around 4-6%. Now, I am listening at around 20-30%. Very pleased.

I picked one if these a while back because I had a new amp that had higher output impedance, but I actually wasnt really sure if it would help or not. I havent really used it too much with that but what I have done was pull out an old Galaxy S II phone I had in the garage and have, rooted it, removed practically all of the apps and system core stuff to the barebones, and then installed Magisk and ViperMod for more music controls. This earbuddy has definitely helped with line noise on the mediocre amp/jack off the galaxy S 2 when I use my IEMs with it, plus allows me to better fine tune volume controls.

We're glad you've found it useful!

I'd love to see an Earbuddy with a straight connector rather than the right-angle.

The wire from my iPhone zig zags from the lightning connector, to the right-angled Earbuddy, to the right-angled IEM cable. Just make 'em all straight!

Hi, I resume the thread since I've seen most aspect covered, except I've got the idea, with EarBuddy, that dynamics are improved at a slight cost of "compression" of the scene... is that just an impression? It's like if the scene gets a tad "squeezed"... but cannot grant for this sensation. Anyone on this boat?

Hi, I am using FiiO Q1 Mark II, and iem F9 Pro. Normally I have to play at pretty low volume because it is quite sensitive. Will earbuddy helps to increase volume and get more dynamic range? My friend said that Q1 Mark II amp using analog signal so earbuddy will not help with dynamic range. Thanks

Ear Buddy increases dynamic range for both analogue and digital systems, if there is excess noise.

It is very difficult to make a system with less than 1uV output noise 20Hz-20kHz, often several times this value applies even in case of extremely well-designed gear. For 1uV, noise would be 120dB dynamic range for a 1V reference (But 132dB for a 4V output referenced to full output) and with Campfire Audio Andromeda being 143dB/1V, 1uV will produce 23dB of noise.

Any system with more noise voltage will produce more noise. In other words, ultra-sensitive IEM's andheadphones will always be "too loud" and "too noisy (lost dynamic range)" and will benefit from EarBuddy or iEMatch. If the usable volume range is very small and at the lower end of the range (or it's too loud), this is a reliable indication of a mismatch with excessive IEM/headphone sensitivity. The doctor recommends iEMatch or EarBuddy to resolve this issue.

I own now both of them, I am far from being an expert but I can reckon they are both worth the price: my only idea is that iEMatch is way more versatile in respect of the EarBuddy, and considering the price difference I'd go straight to the first one... though I see why some people might look for a rather "quick fix" with EarBuddy.

In my rig (Mojo and IT01) the sensations I have are that EB "sits in the middle" of the two settings from iEMatch, closer to the "ultra" one: the only difference being I sense (as written previously) a sort of light "cut" on some extent in terms of scene, or rather "air" perhaps (sorry for my bad use of proper words to describe what I sense).

The lower setting in iEMatch is very "open" and seems to almost "crack up" sound in my IT01 (maybe even too much sometimes, I'll see asap with the IT04 what the difference will be), while the Ultra setting would "recompose" it (above all in treble ares) in spite of resulting in a sound a tad "closed".

EB gives me same sensation, but adding a small "veil" which I don't get in the iEMatch.
Of course those are just my sensations, and are striclty related/affected by my rig: for sure they both allow me to gain dynamics, and the test without is a no-brainer. Yet again, I will use iEMatch on my primal setup, and keep EB just for backup and to allow a second user to take advantage of the second output from Mojo.

Does the output impedance of the source matter? For example, my stereo receiver has a very high output impedance, in the tens of ohms at least, and I would like to use it with iems occasionally for silent tv watching. Will the earbuddy bring the output impedance down to an acceptable level for, say, a 16ohm dynamic driver iem?
